| The ultimate science for golf companies is spinning hype, 'creative' marketing and psychology (sometimes reversed even) to enable the willing consumer masses to feel good in continuing to part with their money. | |

| thats a real good read. thank u simoner. taylormade may be the no 1 in golf equipment but being no 1 in the no of equipment sold does not mean its damn good equipment. (sorry tm fans) TM to me is just good at taking money from our pockets. | |

| There are a lot of golfers here that like or admire tiger, but that doesnt lead to purchases pf nike clubs, except a few ardent fans. I dunno why. myself personally thinks Tigers choice of clubs are beyond the avg hackers skills. I also have this belief that nike clubs are gimmicky, but thats just personal taste.
TM pros, they play friendlier clubs. Something the masses can aspire just a little bit.
I suspect Tiger help sells more nike apparel than nike clubs.

Yes, absolutely ... Just like Michael Jordan (when he was playing), TW is no doubt the vital cash cow for Nike Inc. Even more than Michael Jordan ...

| Though I watch MW and TW on tour, I wouldn't think to even buy a Nike glove on their account. That's just plain lame. | |

| This might sound superficial, but Its just my personal Opinion. i don't think any of them is killing Nike, let alone Tiger.
On the contrary, its the brand's origin that's limiting their success in certain specialised sports. Nike started off as a company dealing with sportswear, shoes and apparel for track and field. With their growth, they began expanding into other sports and acquired companies who were specialised in certain sports technologies in order to bring the tech under their brand. When they took the sports industry by storm in the 80s and 90s, they tried to venture into every sport that they cld bring their brand into. Tennis, basketball, soccer, ice hockey, golf and many more.
But come to think of it, this diversity just wouldn't work out well in some aspects. This is because in every industry, they are specialised companies who deal with a particular sport and stick with it. This is called positioning, and they stick to their roots and product offerings so as not to dilute the brand equity they have built all these years. Titleist,Callaway, Cobra, ping, and Taylormade are such examples. These are brands with the real know-how and possess strong roots in golfing products, and will most likely be here to stay if they have good management and distribution networks.
Many thoughts crossed my mind when thinking about this and maybe you would wanna join me:
Would you buy a Taylormade badminton racket? - No Would you play a Titleist ping pong ball?- No ( well, maybe yes. If they can backspin into the net like their golf balls do on the greens) Would you use a Cobra tennis racket? - No Would these above brands even acquire sufficient market share if they ventured into the above sports? Would you roll a Nike bowling ball?- yucks. Even now that puma joins up with cobra, do you see puma putting their name on cobra blades? Would you play them? Lol. Now, that's one smart move by puma. They stick to what they are good at- apparel. And that's strong positioning.
No offence to Nike fans here. but Seriously, when will Nike ever realise that they can't go about poking their noses into every sport by buying over a company and their tech?
I would believe that there aren't many avid golfers who pursue Nike clubs. Apparel, maybe yes, cos that's what Nike is known for. We don't see Nike method putters going For a thousand bucks like the Scotties do. Rory's move to Nike also probably won't do much improvement to their market share and popularity. Players can add popularity to the brand, only if the brand is well received in that industry to begin with. Think of it, if Tiger played Titleist clubs today, and Rory played TM, I swear their sales will increase by 30%.
I loved Nike for their shoes when I was younger. Now, they are just a classic example of brand dilution.

| Tiger got away with what he wants (even if it means using the same old equipment over and over again and not promoting new products) and Nike is happy that he's happy, as long as he's using Nike equipment. | |

| I honestly do not think that Nike will be the best golf eqpt manufacturer is the world. But it will be around the top. For a global manufacturer of so many sports, I think they have done well. Diversity has its limitations, as you witness with Nike. It cannot compete in terms of consumer perception against specialist sports company. Eg titliest for golf, or Wilson for tennis.
Given its strength in apparels and shoes. I believe that is wear their profit comes from.

| In my opinion, Nike Inc. is very strong in their advertising campaign as they have the financial muscle ... Their strategy is to sponsor top athletes to develop the brand to the highest possible level ... And therefore to make Nike a household sport equipment and apparel name globally ...

| I think it work both ways....
TW is milking Nike, Inc. and Nike Golf, is milking TW.
In Asia, Nike Golf equipments are not selling Good but in US of A, there are a lot who used Nike Golf equipment. specially athletes, colored ones, who wants to be like TW.
TMAG products "sell" when one their staff players win a tourney. Its just that TMAG is just supporting the wrong Man.
And Nike is supporting the Golf King of the 21st century. And now they have McIlroy in their staff.
I guess Nike is maintaining a few select Pro Golfers who they believed represent's their company ideal & vision.
Nike, Inc. has been pirating some of the best Golf club designers and maybe who knows it may become #1.
