| hi;
i just started my 4.5yr old daughter at stargolf academy at MGGC. its a 24 lesson package costing a total of about 680sgd.
most junior programs start at 5yrs or 6yrs, not many below 5yrs. i stay in the east so the best i could find is MBGC, 15mins drive not too bad i guess.

Hi bro Peterinjb, thank you so much for your fast response. Is the lesson conducted in weekly basis? on weekend in groups right? Any idea of the golf instructors profile?

| what i did was that once i decided to sign up, i left my name (daughter's name) on a waiting list. Once they have enough kids to start a class they will inform me of the start date, i pay up 1/2 week before start date.
classes are once a week, ours is sunday morning 10-11am. you probable want to let them know what is ur preferred day/time slot. they give a lesson plan/schedule/time-table for u to track progress. no make-up lessons for missed lessons though. in fact we had 1 Caucasian girl just join in last week on our 3rd lesson. there is now 4 kids in class. maybe u want to join in as well?
They have quite a few teaching pros there. to me it dun really matter since for beginner class. most important is kids hav fun and develop a liking for the game. Coach Shareen is a lady coach and is either used US trained or educated, speaks a bit kan-tang if u know what i mean.

| Peterinjb, Can share what is the location of the class? I am exploring options for my son as well, though he might be a bit young now at slightly 3.5 years, so just checking out what is available out there.
Do you know if they have single adhoc sessions or what is the minimum lessons required for a package?
Thanks! | |

That means your daughter's golf coach is Miss Shareen right? Since they had already completed their 3rd lesson, not sure if it is too late to let my boy join in now, might not be able to catch up. Another issue will be the package fee, are they going to prorate it?

Thanks! 3.5yrs is a little young, probably only place that u can send is kindergolf. they take in kids as young as 3yrs. i suggest just bring ur son to driving range to hit (waste) some balls or any grass patch n play with him simple games just to spend time together and bond and build up a liking for the game. that is what i did. my girl just started lessons at MBGC, they dun just learn how to swing a club, they play games n do exercises to train other basic aspects like balance and coordination etc. i think you can engage any coach for single lessons or 1 on 1 lessons but dun expect it to be cheap. from a coach point of view, time is money. whether teach adult or kid, 1 on 1 or group, the same amount of time/effort required so same cost. Most pros teach a 10 lesson beginner course. try to find group lessons to lower cost, n is probably more fun for kids. i guess unless u r very well off, us regular guys can only afford few hundred bucks on something ur kid may or may not take a liking to...not to mention future clubs, shoes, apparels n stuff. 680 / 24 is about 28sgd a lesson... to me is already very expensive. almost double her swimming lesson of 15sgd a lesson. but i think this is one of the more affordable ones out there.

| check out the stargolf academy website or call up and talk to them. i think max class size is 6 kids or thereabouts. if you can get pro-rate then good for u.
personally, bigger class means less attention given per kid. too big class difficult to manage, but more kids also mean more fun more competition.
3 / 24 is not so bad got lots of time to catch up, i think after a few lessons he should do ok. anyway, from what i observe, the first few lessons, mostly doing exercises and playing games. u din miss much.

| hmm, I see, thanks for your response, Peterinjb! I probably will do what you suggested as I think 3.5 years is abit too young too. My boy is having fun putting balls all over my house at the moment. lol | |

Hi Peterinjb, i called up star golf academy yesterday, they explained that my boy is not able to join in your current junior program since it's already running for 3 lesson, there won't be any make up lesson or prorated fee and afraid my boy could't catch up with their progress. They advised me to go down personally and fill up the application form and wait for the next upcoming program. By the way, is there any minimum height for the kid? They also mention that although my boy has reach the suitable age requirement, but it is still subjected to the height requirement, there might not be suitable clubs for shorter kid.

| Read that tanglin has this SGA supported junior golf program, very much cheaper than others but only thing is that is weekday class. Maybe coach Jia lee can also do weekend classes?

I see other coaches teaching other junior classes at various stages all during the 10-11am time slot. at least 2 other classes in session. I dunno about any height requirement, was not informed about it. Anyway my daughter is just over a meter, about 110cm, her classmates r a little shorter.

you can google phua thin kiay.
i found a couple of fb pages for him and mandai executive golf club
have many friends who's kids were under him since 3 or 4 including mine. amazing swing.
he's very old already, coaching for 40 years, thus minimal publicity now.
amazing personality, no airs, likes hard work, dislikes hot air.
friend who intro-ed was a top junior at sicc under him.
good thing is Exec GC has a mickey mouse course to train as well.
Good luck
