| just a beginner sharing my thoughts: stand behind the ball looking towards target, visualize distance and shot, take grip, walk towards ball and take up stance, waggle club (as per hogan) and rock left and right to make sure I'm balanced (centred and weight is well spread out), do a final waggle (but slower so not to rush my shot), focus on personal swing thought and be committed through the shot.

| my namesake....
1) stand behind ball, make whatever decisions u need to make...
2) 1 or 2 practise swings knowing it will be the swing that send the ball to your target...
3) take a deep breath, maintain your focus
4) once address the ball, check alignment
5) focus on your target, dun think abt swing cos u trust your swing
practise your preshot routine on the driving range...
i go through 1-5 on the range.... rather than hammering 100 balls in 30mins
once u formed that habit on the range.... it becomes easier on the course
hope u break 80 soon...

| Just my style...
1. Stand behind a ball and take a practice swing, get the alignment right 2. Set up over the ball and take a few swings, visualizing the shot shape 3. Waggle, get comfortable 4. Let it rip

| I've got this tendency to rush my shots. Recently tried this routine that proved to be quite useful, at least for me. Instead of taking a couple of practice swings, with my focus in trying to replicate required shot, I now take only one practice swing. But at a much slower tempo. Focusing on (1) end of upswing position, (2) end of follow thru position and most importantly (3) smooth swing. At a much slower tempo. I try not to think of final shot. This helped me to take a more relaxed swing, with a more balanced swing thru. Even for my final shot. Something I learnt from my previous workplace: Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast. :p | |

| just to share, few of us responded to an invite thru this forum and attended few sessions with Sports Mental coach Han Ee with some sessions at BFG and driving range at keppel.....learning the ABC method (which include pre-shot routine) can help anyone to improve his/her level of game too....for more info check out www.emergeperformance.net | |

| 1. Pick target 2. Visualise the ball flight path 3. take 2 practise swing behind the ball - first on 1/3 swing, second on 1/2 swing 4. go alongside the ball, take one last practise swing - full swing 5. line up the clubface behind the ball 6. take one last look at target 7. open mouth - pull trigger
just sharing from a super high handicapper
cheers and have a great week ahead.

| I wish I have a consistent pre-shot routine ... my game ends badly when i get too technical on the course and not able to swing freely. Anyway, whenever I do my pre-shot routine*: 1: I stand behind the ball and swing to loosen up 2: Pick the target line and imagine my carry distance 3: Walk up to the ball and adress 4: Whack ... I mean swing * only when I play well, I tend to do the pre-shot consistently ... other times, I skip the part of swinging to loosen up nor do I imagine my carry distance ... Just pick my line and whack ... | |

| Patience is never my virtue. I never took practice swing at all. I always rush my swing. I think it is time for me to start practice swings if I want to lower my score | |

| It is all about taking your time. Swing a few times, make sure that you can get the feel on how you are going to hit the ball. Then go behind the ball, align with your target and think nothing else and take your shot. | |

| Not more than one practice swings please, the game is slow enough. Taking 5 practice swings is like playing 5 x 18 holes. | |

Agree, some took too long during pre-shot and rush it through. Guess commitment and focus is most important. Thanks .

| Here is a blog I wrote a little while back which covers a simple 4 step routine which can be used for any shot in any situation:

Good luck! | |
