| viewing it from another angle....
a short hitter will have difficulties to consistently dominate like long hitters.. of course both can win, tournaments, majors or even no.1 ranking... but in long haul, i think long hitters do have the upper hand..

One definitely need distance if he really wants to win in a Major Championship like Master which is held in the monstrous 7,435 yards Augusta National ... If not, most of the time he will have to hit FW/hybrid in his second or perhaps 3rd shot into the green ... Some said if a tour pro who is world's #1 but have yet to win any Major, he is not considered a worthy World's #1 ...

Examples of former (and of course current) World's #1 who are major winners ... 1) David Duval (World's #1 & Major winner before); 2) Phil Mickelson (World's #1 & Multiple Major winner before); 3) Rory MIlroy (World's #1 & Major Winner before); 4) Vijay Singh (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 5) Greg Norman (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 6) Arnold Palmer (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 7) Nick Faldo (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 8) Fred Couple (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 9) The late Ben Hogen (World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before); 10) Tiger Woods (Current World's #1 & Multiple Major Winner before);

Can add Martin Kaymer to that list. Yes, he was World's #1 in a short span and he has a major title on his belt ... If I include Arnold & Ben Hogen, Jack Nicklaus should be on the list too ...

The present Augusta National (venue for the Master) is much narrower and longer than it was 10 years ago when Mike Weir clinched it. The following might be of interest to Mike Weir's fans ... http://www.majorschampionships.com/masters/news/2013/04/08/verdi-weir.html
