Driving Range at home

Has anyone tried one of these:

Been thinking of getting one of this so i can build my own driving range at home. hoping to get some feedback. Or has anyone built his own range at home using other products, feedback as well! thanks!

Hi i'm also in the midst of finding stuff to set up my own driving range / simulator.

i've tried the pro return net at the learningtee, while testing out the optishot. i think it works fine. u may want to drop by the learningtee and test it out for urself

As i prefer one with a projector screen, i'm also toying with the idea of making an enclosure on my own - ie using aluminium frames and canvas.

Hi,

That sounds quite cool. But then with an enclosure and projector it sounds more like a golf simulator and i suppose it will cost upwards of 5k? And i suppose you have a room provisioned for it.

How do you suppose the net will hold up to repeated poundings by the driver? im quite doubtful of how lasting it is considering how it is easily folded and kept. I probably will pay them a visit some time soon.

As for the optishot, how do you suppose it compares to an actual launch monitor? I happened to chance upon the ES12 http://www.thelearningtee.com/es12-portable-golf-launch-monitor/ as well while surfing the learning tee. Wonder if you considered that too?

im not sure about durability. i guess u can try to google for reviews.

as for the launch monitor, it really serves a rather different purpose from the optishot. the optishot actually has the ability to 'simulate' an actual golf game whilst the launch monitor is purely for swing data. so i guess it depends on what u r after. if it's swing data, then the launch monitor might b a better option.

ahh i see. so the optishot is more like a budget simulator.

Im more on the track of swing data. short of just getting a astro turf mat with a net, i thought a launch monitor would help in providing feedback. And with all the different equipment out there, im quite spoilt for choice.

How's the search for your golf simulator going? found a suitable system?

Don't forget to put extra net to cover the wall to absorb your mishit , my daughter got a few bruises from the golf balls reflected off the wall and hit her . Those who want to use projector for the simulator I recommend use white flexible canvas that absorb high impact. You can buy it online.

I think there is a local dealer/distributor @ Eastech Bldg (near the hospital). I went there to buy 2nd hand balls (address located via another thread on the forum) and was also shown the Optishot.

Yea I believe that would be the learning tee. It's in bedok north. Will probably drop by to check out that place soon.

Thanks for the heads up bro. But im leaning more towards putting this outdoors. So if the return net works as advertised it shouldn't be a problem.

Just curious, what items do you use for your indoor range? Like did you put an astro turf mat with just the net? Or like add a launch monitor as well? If you don't mind sharing. Haha pictures would be great. In need of ideas! Smile

Bro, if you have a large enough outdoor area you can consider one of those contraptions where the golf ball is tied to a stake with a long rope and you just hit it. With that you can see the immediate ball flight but then of course it would be slightly artificial.

A budget option you could consider.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've tried one of those things but felt that the feel and the ball flight was too artificial for my liking. Nothing beats hitting a real ball off the grass/mat.

a bro was selling one of these quite some time back. It gives the club head speed, ball speed and smash factor. Quite a nifty gadget.

But it doesn't give ball flight. I suppose this would be good to bring to the range. Hitting into a net, you might be hitting banana balls for all you know and still not know.

this is a very interesting project..

just my thoughts..will it fit into the standard HDB flat? I live in one and am toying with the idea too..

i doubt i can use the driver..haha..irons probably..

I guess its possible as long as it fits in the room. However, u might wanna consider ur neighbours downstairs with all the thumbing gg on. The sound and thud of the club hitting the ground each time. Also when the ball bounces back. Unless u get those really thick mats fr the range. Dun think carpet is enough.
