yep, agreed on the Best Investment : looking into the Yearly cost of Spectacles and contact lens. Beside I am hv rather relative higher degree on astigmatism (> 100) @ uncommon axis + dry eye

If u consider doing lasik, just pay a bit go to the asssement test 1st, if your eyes not suitable the doctor will tell u so. I did mine because almost every 1-2 years...the specs price went up...from 200 to my last one was almost 500.

enwee you used the same guy as I did. Very good experience, no problems so far.

Better to do it earlier than later before the long-sightedness kicks in. Shocked

Oic... am currently wear glasses to see distance. Last few months realized I had problem for reading which require to remove my glasses. That is why I am considering to go for Eye sight correction procedure, to correct both Long and Short sighted.

Am active in exercising and sport, now more often Golfing. So i will need my Monthly Contact Lenses for sport/Golf/running, but I got dry eyes thus can't wear contact for too long esp in Air Conditioning area.

------------

I did mine 12 years ago, and have no regrets. I can now see the ball clearly at 250m+ away after tee shots (not that I can tee off so far).

There are 3 options for you :

1. Lasik for short sightedness, and use reading glasses for near sights, like reading papers.

2. The other way around - surgically correct your lau hua, and wear lens for distant visions like driving, sports, golf etc. Doesn't make sense if you do it for golf.

3. Correct one eye for distant visions, and the eye for reading. This was recommended by my eye doctor. Obviously he was not a golfer.

I wasn't sure about Option 3, so I opted for 2, since I wanted to do lasik mainly for golf.

The surgery was easy and painless. Just some discomfort. All done in 2 hours, with the sculpturing of the lens done in 16 minutes - 8 mins each eye, and I did both in one go.

It's a day surgery, you can go home and rest after that. For follwing 5 hours, your eyes will be covered and not advised to use your eyes for TV or reading. You are advised not to wash or rub your eyes, meaning don't wash your hair in case your eyes get contaminated, mainly to avoid infections.

I did mine at 10am, and by same evening, I was already driving my car under street lights. The street lights will appear to have more halos and glares but it goes way after few weeks.

So now, I can see clearly where my banana shots are sliced to, and can easily find my balls in thick roughs. The number of OB balls recovered has more than paid for the surgery. Worth it.

There you go.

Progressive contact lens is another option.
And an extension on option 1 above for your daily work is a progressive glasses that is no power for distance and your reading power at the bottom.

Talk to your Eyecare practitioner, I am sure they will know best.

I think AMF's point is, like me, he doesn't want to wear any glasses or lenses when playing golf. So progressive contact lens is not an option.

Tks Bro for sharing Ur valuable experience. I think I would prefer for not to wear glasses or contact lenses for other sport eg Running/biking/etc and Golfing. I do hear abt Ur mentioned option 3, was thinking' towards this direction too but am also not too sure if good for Golfing.

I think U may hv a typo, or U had opted for 1 instead of 2.

You're right, was a typo. I opted for 1, not 2. 2 makes no sense for people like you and me.

Also, on Turbo's post....all surgery involves risks. Failure in Lasik , at my time, was about 4%. In this case, it's more of a criminal negligence since the doctor advised surgery even though it was not suitable.

One of my friends got problem post surgery like watery eyes, seeing double halos. Another one was OK for the start, but after 5 or 6 years, his vision weakens, not sure due to surgery, or simply ageing.

I can only say for myself, after 12-13 years, my eye sight is still good.

Technology has advanced since my time, so seeing an eye specialist fiorst to determine suitability is a good start.

I believe Tiger Woods and VJ Singh, among other PGA tour players, have done their lasik just fro golf too.

I too had my lasik done by the famous Dr. Marc Tay. But because I have to make a decision whether to have lasik done for long sightedness or shortsighterness or a better option as suggested by Dr. Marc Tay, mono vision. I was also told that it can get rid of my Lao Hua. I opted for the latter. I didn't know what I will be getting after the surgery and was told that the lasik treatment would last about 5 years.

There were discomforts in the eyes with adjusting to seeing things but the brain would eventually adjust itself with the NEW vision.

This month marks the 5th year and my eyesight is slowly returning to its old self, that is, Lao Hua. I can't read fine prints of font size smaller than 5 anymore.

I have no regrets though, for the 5 years of good vision. Wonder what would be the next best option for me.

I am turning 58 this year and hope I can continue golfing past the age of 70.

There's always risk in any operation. If you have hesitations, just don't do lor. Anyway if anyone considering Lasik op, should go to a reliable doctor. My doctor, told me some of his patients get infection mainly it's the patients themselves been stubborn and ignored all the doctor's post op advice, such cases, who do you blame? When I did mine 3 years ago, my doctor told me for the last 10 over years, he did more than 10K patients, none failed. He don't want me to be his 1st as well.

I did mine like..... 1 month ago? Currently its still very good. My astig was around 800 to 900 and after i did my lasik, I still can see. Because I am a staff in one of the lasik clinic in Singapore, I got personal advice from my nurse that what is most important is to go home and sleep immediately after the lasik!!! They says that the healing process is better if you go home and sleep immediately.

Also, must really put the antibiotics eyedrop and the lubricant constantly.

I went for option 3 with Dr Marc Tay 6 year ago. Never been happier. Could read small font sms and see far distance at the same time, though I won't said superb sharp for long distance focus. The brain just adjust for the difference but I guess option 3 may not be for everyone. So you need to check with your doc and am sure he will be able to help you. Use to carry disposable lens whenever I travel (more than 50%) or golf but decided to go for the lasik. It was like a miracle - very happy with the new vision.
