You hit the nail on the spot!

In the 1960-70s, the loft on the 3i is about 24* and 2i about 20*. The 3i then was also about 0.5" to 0.75" shorter than today's 3i.

The current Taylormade R11 3i has only 19* loft and 5i has 24*.

So what we are struggling with is not the 3i but more like a 1i or 2i. I don't recall many top PGA players in the 60s could hit their 1i or 2i well too.....

Chances of top ball & slice fm wood & hybrid re slimmer as compare to long irons....u ll duff!
Even if top e ball, u ll send it runng like a rabbit on e fairway still!
This type of rollg re genuinely distances than computer.
Am lovin my 3w & hybrids.....

I can hit my Fw off the deck and in the fairway.

On the fairway everything depends on the lie, and how is my golf ball is sitting.

My wife and I used Fairway wood, 3 & 5 wood as often as we can.

I do not want to sound "Chiao aw" but I think you must "hire" someone who can teach you how to used these golf toys.

I was cursing and swearing on my last golf lesson and complained to my instructor about the 'hard to hit 3W and 2H' and sought his advice regarding selling them.

He listened carefully, kept quiet and told me to do my usual set up with them. He came over to me and told me to change my grip a little and move a little right....

Then he stepped back and said, "Ok, just hit it as you would normally."

Struck a 200 yarder instantly and I turned around and looked at him.......

I believe your instructor asked you to have a stronger grip to prevent slice if you swing from outside - in.

Now, tell me, can you still hit it when your instructor is not around ? If can,

Can you hit it when on the course ? If can, great. If not, sell me your 3 wood and 2 H

To me, the #3 FW is much much easier to hit than a #3 or 4 irons.

Hitting FW is all about rhythm ... most importantly, swing smoothly, do not rush thru the swing, and make sure you maintain your spine angle thru out the swing.

My pro advised me to tee it up just a little bit, say 1-2mm off the ground when practicing at the driving range to emulate the actual condition on the fairway. Some mats on the range are so thin and hard that it is very difficult to hit/practice a fairway wood well.

Sorry bro, here just my opinion. The reason for easier to hit when one tee up the ball with a fairway wood, was because ball higher and club face is small. It does top the ball much easier when one swing tend to help to lift the ball when swinging with a wood.

I do not think it has anything to do with whether the mat was thin and hard.

Imagine this : Driver .. longest but with the biggest club face. Fairway wood
.. 2nd longest club but with a small club face

It is good to tee it up when practicing but one need to practice hitting it from the mat without tee. If not, one will have difficult time hitting it in the course when you have different lie to worry about.

For me, I do not have this type of problem because my tee shot usually not on fairway

pagi pak slicer. ahahahaha my bad my bad. for teeing off, usually i tee it up 0.5cm. but now somehow i just cant play wood, jialat la. par 5 u still need wood mah.
