4H to chip? Wow! That's quite daring. The ball will run if you don't control the strength of the swing.

of course only for those with big greens to work.... and at least u wont duff the shot.... and it's definitely easier to hit then a 3 or 5W... Razz

Might as well use putter? But I do see the benefit in a 4H. I would prefer a 5i though.

bro, if i use putter, then consider 1 putt from there liao... (3 putt consider penalty)

5i is fine but the wide sole of the 4H can reduce many "surprises"....

of course if nvr play the putting penalty, i will use putter if lie is good... Smile

Right Sided Coach has a video on chipping technique. Hope it helps.

Dang, i think got to get someone to show me how to post pictures and videolinks man. Sorry for the screwup.

Yah, this vid makes a lot of sense. And he's spot on with the rocking shoulders mistake.

Only other thing I can think of is to maintain same smooth tempo with smooth transition coming back into the downswing. Then it's just a matter of visualising an underhanded toss with the ball in your right hand to the hole.

Lots of help coming in now Techno, sure improve one.

Yeah, thanks Birdman. I'll try to pay more attention to the tempo and ensure a smooth transition. Many a time, I decelerate on the downswing which is a problem. Need more confidence which, as you can expect, comes from practice.

Tomorrow nite can practice lol. It's similar to what DG Man says about putting. more follow through than backswing, sure won't decelerate one. The only other constant must be the left arm arc radius, no wrist breakdown AND elbow chicken wing. Not many people are aware that elbow chicken wing also kills chipping.

those are great videos. very informative! i always thought chipping involved a more of a sweeping action through the ball as opposed to chopping down. and i thought i'd whip out my 60* everytime i need to chip.

one question; how does the lie dictate what kind of shot we should play? (in this case for chipping)

wah feel like eating chicken wings now dunno why. Razz

Hahahah Ironfist, maybe it's cos i was mentioning chicken wing elbow earlier?

Well, for me at least. on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being hardpan (botak) ,5 being a regular fairway lie, 6 and 7 being the ball sitting up like on a short tee, 8 to 9 being the ball sitting down in the rough, and 10 can only see the "Tit" in Teitlist. 4 and below, I try to have a descending blow. More margin for error and still able to spin the ball so it will check up on the green. 5 gives the options to hit down to check, sweep to release and roll, open slightly to lob and float onto the green. 6 to 7 gives all the earlier options, but it is only here that I feel I should attempt a flop shot. Cos can slide the club under the ball easily without the bounce of the club causing havoc should I not be so precise with ball contact. 8 to 10, I just really open the clubface, say a little prayer, take a deep breath, and changkul the ball out.

Actually hor...another way is to consider playing the right yardage....meaning layup at the right distance fm green so that can do full swing or what ever is most comfortable ....of coz, this does not address the main issue....just mitigating

I've been wondering about that even though I've never been to that swing school. Saw lots I agreed with in the right sided swing coach's videos.
