| This morning as I was driving. I chanced by a speeding car which unfortunately crossed paths with a cat whom is trying to cross the road. Fortunately for the cat, it did not suffer and I could see that it was instant death.
But unfortunately, the car did not stop to render any assistance and I think the driver probably is unaware of what happened as well. Either that or bedek one.
I stopped my car, managed to get to the cat safely in the middle of the road and moved the body to the road shoulder. But I was stumped what to do next....
so who am I supposed to call?
and also how is this different from the Remy Ong case?

| MC, you did what you could (and more than most would do). That is life on the highway for strays. It's unfortunate, but move on. | |

| I would probably leave it at that, since that's probably all you can do. Maybe call the animal wellfare group and leave it with them.
but seriously that was very kind of you and probably a rarity nowadays.

| My brudder - Hood... I applaud your action. I will recommend that you the following ASAP: #1 Tell others of what you had done. You should leverage on all the possible social media tools at your disposal. #2 NEXT, you should tell SPCA of how this happen...Write BIG BIG on the NewPaper.. #3 Then....you should anticipate an acknowledgment fm the masses... | |

| i do not need glorification. the last time i had that. it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I do not also seek acknowledgement, applause or praises. I seek answers. I was really stumped.
I do not want to pose on FB for fear of ending up on hardwarezone or temasektimes.wordpress... for something that i did not do...
i already learnt from those 44/80 men, 1 insensitive chick and another brainless blonde from girly forum...
I just want to know answers... i thought someone here might have it... guess i will call in to SPCA this after if I am free to find out... i will update here if I have an answer.

| Feel for u bro, heartless pple we have become. I know this sound wrong but it would be pointless to blow this up, Cuz if I recall from the Remy incident, cats don't get the same rights as dogs, horses or asses.
Guess we just have to say a silent prayer for the poor tabby and hope that in the next life it would have a better fate.

| call Npark to remove the cat cause they could pose a health problem or if its still on the road, LTA cause a motorbike can fall over can cause injuries to the rider.
I know lots of ppl sayang the cats and many ask SPCA to take them (the live ones ofcourse) ..what they dont know is these strays all kena put down. Sometimes better to let them roam as free cats.

| Calling the animal shelter just eases your conscience MC, no fault in that.
I may be wrong, but the reality is that most times they will be just put down anyways. The sad reality is that it's not deemed economically viable to save an animal's life however slim the chance of survival may be. They are already stretched financially having to feed and house the many healthy strays and abandoned pets under their care. Why do you think they have active animal adoption schemes?
When my pet cat fell eight floors and suffered internal injury, she was left to die on the vet's table. I rushed her in and it was 10.30pm, the vet techs just said the vet has gone home and there's nothing they can do. They just waited with me until my cat passed on. I was quite stunned at their nonchalance back then.
The only time I knew of a vet going the extra mile was when it was their own pet. A dog that suffered organ failure, only then did the vet go the extra mile with intensive care to save the dog's life. I was told in such situations, the animal would normally be put down. How lucky that prized pedigree dog was.

| Only few days ago something happened to me too. I also don't know what to do but just drove on. While fetching my daughter on the way to her school early in the morning, I am not sure whether it was a raven or a mynah, it flew right into my car and ricochet off. Through my side mirror I saw the black bird lying on the grass patch on the side of the road. I did not stop as there were a few cars following behind me. I just drove on. What would you have done??

| if memory serves me right, you should call LTA if you feel that the dead/injured animal posed as a danger to other motorists. they'll dispatch one of their gardening/maintainence crew to the area
if it were me, i'd pick up the carcass, tail the ah beng and leave it on his car as a momentor of this reckless driving.

Whoa easy cowboy, a stray runs out and you hit it and this is reckless driving? Reckless driving is if you were to swerve out of the way and hit something else. This is a city not much room to maneuver with out additional problems.

i once saw crows feeding off the intestines of a dog or cat in the middle of a busy intersection. (i seriously can't tell at this time as it was kinda messy) dang birds nearly get run over themselves, falling all over each other trying to fight for some roadkill.... flapping wings with intestines in beak... unable to pull the whole length out. looking like a kite on a thick bloody string 3 feet off the ground..

| well erm alllow me to clarify, by reckless driving i ment the fact that our TS mentioned he was speeding, not the act of running over a cat
in a high population density area like Chinatown, with plenty of old folks, its highly possible that the same driver could hit a person instead of a cat or dog.

| Mc, if I am not wrong the driver is not guilty. But it is a different case if it is a dog instead of a cat
http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_770869.html
Cast a wider net of protection for animals under the Road Traffic Act, animal welfare groups are urging. The law states that any motorist involved in an accident where a person or an animal is injured must stop to help the victim.
However, as now defined, an animal is any horse, cattle, ass, mule, sheep, pig, goat or dog. This leaves out many others, such as cats.

| Reply from SPCA - Quote :
Dear mUAr_cHEe, Thank you for your email and for your concern. This is what the SPCA advises to drivers who have hit an animal on the road: · Stop the vehicle at a safe place and call the SPCA emergency line on 6287 5355 (extension 9) to report the accident.
· Check if the animal is injured.
· Move the animal to a safe area if it is lying in the middle of the road (if you are able and it is safe for you to do so).
· Give our Animal Support Officer (ASO) clear directions to the animal’s location so that our Animal Rescue Officers (ARO) can get to its aid. Stay by the animal until our ARO arrives at the scene.
· If our ARO cannot get to the scene immediately because they are conducting another rescue, please take the animal to the SPCA, or our ASO can advise you on the nearest veterinary clinic you can take the injured animal to.
· Report the accident to the police within 24 hours.
For witnesses to hit-and-run accidents such as in your case, if you did not note the license number of the offender, the only thing you can do is to call the National Environment Agency at 1800 2255 632 to clear the body away. If the animal was still alive, we would ask you to alert us and we would send an Animal Rescue Officer asap. Please let me know if you need further clarification. Warmest regards,

| This is unfortunately the circle of life. Happens to people too. People who are careful their whole life sometimes also meet with the unexplained. For example, waiting in a bus stop (happened before) and still got killed by some careless or drunk driver.
Whenever I see a dead animal on the road, be it cats, dogs or birds, I will say a prayer for them in my heart for them to be reborn again, hopefully not in the same form.

| @skybobo my concern is not whether the ah beng gets the legal or not. it is what is deemed enough assistance rendered.
as tronos and SPCA officer has confirmed. For a dead animal, call NEA to clear up.
