PostSubject: What's a good driver to buy?   What's a good driver to buy? I_icon_minitimeSat Oct 03, 2009 10:17 am

Is there seriously such a thing as one driver hitting longer than another? I'm talking about head design here.

I've been toying with getting a new driver for a long time now even though my TM Tour Burner(with Proforce V2 shaft) is serving me well. I mean, who's going to complain about a extra distance off the tee if it's attainable via equipment change?

I've tried the Titleist D2, D3 & D-Comp with all the different shafts they have on offer and was even loaned a D2 with Ozik 5 shaft(thanks to my pro Joe at Chilli Golf) and I still like my TM better. Although I did try my friend's D2 with V2 shaft(55gm shaft) and found it not too bad.

Have been contemplating the R9 but only managed to try it with the stock shaft and found it a tad too light and didn't like it. Haven't tried one with the V2 shafts.

So all this is just making me more confused with all the different heads and shafts. Is there one driver head which is more superior in terms of distance than othere?

hahaha that's insane.. almost like the short stick already.

but i don't think you can get any longer than a burner driver with that 46.25" shaft. you'd have to check your launch angles and spin rate with each driver until you find one that's perfect. this is all according to my n00b understanding.. haha

why dont ya pop down to the TMag concept store at the cathay, they'll do that fitting thing and it should sort you right out. plenty of shaft/head combos to try out there.

A 4.5˚ loft driver? Wow!!

Anyway, you can consider the Cleveland Launcher or Monster XLS. Pretty good. For forgiveness, I was told that the Mizuno MX-700 is a worthwhile consideration.

Try the R9 Max if you find the original R9 a little light. The 460cc head does add some weight. I have the R9 Max with stock S flex shaft. If we both go to the next range gathering you can give it a try! Smile

Try a broomstick Smile

J/K - I think the R9 is a good club but if opt for the R9 Max or 460.

TP is the touring model.

R9 Max is the Japan spec 460cc model of the R9.
R9 460 is the US spec 460cc model of the R9.

Here's some info on the different R9s.

dont know if the TMag at cathay fitting is free matey, but you can always call them up and check. if it is its super worth it though. get your putter checked and fitted while your at it, theyve got that putting launch monitor thing...(thought i feel putts should be generally kept rolling along the ground Razz )

good luck with that!
