Wonder how come a Handicap Card has an expiry date? Thought it was something like our driving licence where once you passed your driving there is no need to renew it unless you are suspended.

Hey,

let us not look at it negatively.

Charging fees are done in any associations.

In Golf, like in my country. The NGAP charges 250.00 pesos for a year

They keep track and record your scores and post your Handicap online.
And our Handicap is also honored by USGA.

Hence, we Filipinos can play in the US of A becoz we have an association taking care of this.

Fees like this is normal and a collateral damage to our fav hobbies.

cheers

Hi TDO,

It is not so much that your Handicap expires but rather that your membership with the club expires. Hence, when you renew your membership, there is no need to take the courtesy round all over again.

In fact, even for our driving licence, we previously had to renew every 3 years if you recall and unless I am mistaken, Malaysia still has an expiry on it.

However, a handicap can become inactive if scorecards are not submitted regularly to maintain it.

Hi Derek,

My argument is golf is just a sport or game. LTA have finally come to their senses and therefore decided to do away with the renewal of the driving license for those who have passed the driving. I mean which other ball games require licensing other than golf.

I understand the importance of having a handicap card. Just like the Highway Code, all drivers have to take this compulsory test before moving on to the next stage of practical test which in this case of golf is the handicap test. What can be done is to make sure social golfers produce the insurance certificate, which in my view is more important, provided of course they already passed their handicap test.

Yes, I agree that Malaysia also have the handicapping system that has an expiry on it. But again, in many of the courses, they are quite lax about it. Revenue is one of the main reasons for the laxness but I do think they also want more golfers to enjoy the game.

I can understand your defense in maintaining the handicapping system as Golf Kaki represents many homeless golfers. I am also a GK member. Beer

Cheers!
