after 3 months of intense practise and games I think I am ready to dump my X20s for a new set of clubs. I have pretty much decided to get a MX300 set but after looking at the MP58 today, it left me undecided.

Any info will be appreciated.

Before you decide to descend into the dark depths of the enchanted forest beginning ur eternal quest for that elusive new set of magic wands, perhaps you need to understand a few things.

It's good that ur period of intense practise and games have resulted in a better swing and ball striking. It may also be that ur likely tuned in to ur X20s and are comfortable with them. Switching to a different set does not mean you will hit the same or better, you may be surprised that ur great swing with the X20s has suddenly gone south. For everyone, a new set takes some getting used to, meaning minor tweaks in your setup to achieve ur desired ball flight.

The X20s are a great set of sticks in the game improvement category and so are the MX 300s, so you might want to re-consider if you really want to spend the money changing from one set to another that gives similar performance yet requires a period of adjustment on ur part. The money and effort may not be worth it unless ur talking about the MP 58s, which are less GI and allows you to work the ball some. Then you've got to see if ur swing is up to muster especially for the 5i and up. The MP 58s will require a more technically sound swing and knowledge of how to work ur ball flight. If all ur seeking is to still just hit the ball straight, then ur back to ur X20s and the MX 300s, which also brings us back to the first part of this paragraph.

In the end, the decision is urs and what ur ready for. I hope I've helped some with my thoughts.

Birdman,

I'm convinced it will be better for me to stick to the X20s and spend the money on further coaching instead. And then let the coach decide if my performance has outgrown the equipment...

I've replaced my long irons (3-5) with 23*(5) and 19*(4) Mizuno MX Fli Hi hybrids, they basically fill the gap between my short irons & FW, and I can get pretty good accuracy and consistency with them. So the question is, to further develop the game, is it essential to muster long irons?

Wise decision, when it's time to change, do ur research and come in here to ask around, or even head down for starry starry nite to see if you can try some different irons.

I would advise you to check ur distance gaps from ur 5 iron, to the two hybrids, and up to your 5 wood. Ur hybrid lofts are much stronger than the irons you have replaced.

X20 5 iron is 27*, 4 iron is 24*, 3 iron is 21*, and 2 iron is 18*.

Ur hybrid's are 23* and 19*. Bear in mind too that for the same lofts, a hybrid will tend to hit longer up to a club cos of ease of use and higher launch angle.

it's not essential to master the long irons. Some dump them, some feel it's good to train with the long irons on the range to hone their swing. Different strokes for different folks.

as long as your hybrids are able to cover the distances of your long irons, why have to muster long irons....... unless u are a purist

for me, golf is oreadi difficult, so if there are easier clubs for me to hit than the long irons, i go get it....jmho
