| 2012 ICTSI PHILIPPINE OPEN TO BE BROADCAST LIVE
Manila, December 6: The Philippine Open, Asia’s oldest national championship, will be broadcast live around the world for the first time in February, 2012, organisers announced today. The prestigious Asian Tour tournament also announced the International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), which is in the business of acquiring, developing and operating container ports and terminals worldwide, will return as the title sponsor. The ICTSI Philippine Open will offer prize money of US$300,000 and will be staged once again at the venerable Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s East course from February 9-12, 2012. HSBC, Panasonic Philippines, Globe Business and Cathay Pacific have also signed on as sponsors of the ICTSI Philippine Open, ensuring strong support from Corporate Philippines. Celebrating its 96th edition in February, the Open has provided some of the most amazing scenes in golf in recent times. American Berry Henson claimed this year’s title after producing a crucial up-and-down par save on the closing hole to win by one shot from local favourite Jay Bayron at the demanding Wack Wack’s East course. For the first time, the four rounds will be beamed live on the Asian Tour’s global television platform which reaches 200 countries and over 850 million homes. Enrique K. Razon, Jr., Chairman and President of ICTSI, said: “We are honoured to continue our highly successful association with our country’s national championship. As the region’s oldest national Open, the ICTSI Philippine Open is the golfing pride of our country and we are delighted the championship will be beamed live around the world next year. “The broadcasts will further elevate the stature of the Philippine Open and it will showcase our prestigious championship which it richly deserves.” National Golf Association of Philippines (NGAP) President Leandro R. Mendoza expressed his fullest appreciation to ICTSI for its title sponsorship and said confirmation of the live broadcast would ensure the event’s premier status on the Asian Tour, which is the official sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia. “We are looking forward to welcoming the stars of the game from the Asian Tour to the ICTSI Philippine Open. Our championship is steeped in history and tradition and it is fitting that we continue to work closely with ICTSI and the Asian Tour. “It is exciting that the Open will be beamed live around the world and I am sure the benefits will be immense for our country and our valued sponsors. With Wack Wack Golf and Country Club being in the heart of the city, the golfing world will certainly view magnificent images during the broadcasts which will greatly promote our country,” said Mendoza. Kyi Hla Han, Executive Chairman, Asian Tour, expressed his appreciation to ICTSI and NGAP for their continued push to grow the game. “The ICTSI Philippine Open is one of the most prestigious national championships in Asia due to its long and celebrated history. We have hailed many worthy champions over the years at the Philippine Open including local heroes Frankie Minoza and Angelo Que,” said Han. “I would like to express our deepest appreciation to ICTSI for its outstanding support and the NGAP for working closely with us in promoting and developing the game at the highest level in Asia.” Wack Wack has played host to the Philippine Open on numerous occasions and its location within the central business district is ideal for fans to watch Asia’s finest challenging for the coveted title. “Wack Wack is honoured to host the ICTSI Philippine Open. We thank ICTSI and the rest of our sponsors for supporting this great event. We will prepare our championship course to its best for what is set to be another wonderful week of golf,” said Philip E. Juico, President, Wack Wack Golf & Country Club. Ends. About the Philippine Open As Asia’s oldest national Open, the ICTSI Philippine Open will celebrate its 96th edition from February 9-12, 2012.
