Embedded ball
If your ball has become embedded into the ground upon landing on a closely-mown area (fairway, fringe, green but not semi-rough or rough), you are allowed to pick it up, clean it and let it drop right next to the original spot.
(Rule 25)

If u have iPhone, download free apps "Golf Rules". It is simple and have illustrations.. Very good for quick reference

One of our national boys tried to pull a fast one on me when his ball was embedded in the ROUGH during the SNAC.
Told him, 'don't try to snook uncle leh'.

This is interesting.

25-2. Embedded Ball
A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the coursethrough the green. "Closely mown area" means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less.

So, if plugged on a fairway, can lift, clean and drop.

If plugged in the rough, but on a path cut to fairway height or less, can do the same.

If plugged in the rough, where the rough is above fairway height, cannot lift and clean.

Learnt something new.

Had a freakish incident the other day at MBGC ... Wet conditions ... Hit an approach shot from far ... When i reached the green couldnt see the ball ... Must be in bunker ... But looked in the bunker, and couldnt find it ... Couldnt find the ball anywhere ... Finally spotted it (and this is diff to explain) embedded in the bunkers front facing wall ... So if im standing in the bunker the ball is approx. 4 ft high and embedded in a vertical wall! Friendly game , so dropped the ball down and played on ... ! Dont know the official ruling though?
