The correct acceleration depends on the size of the backswing, the weight of the club, the flex of the shaft, assuming we are strong/fast enough to match the flex of the shaft.

The tempo always resolves to 3:1 in a good swing regardless, as far as the current studies show.

Try this drill: stop at the top of your swing for a second before you start your downswing. Deliberately stay at the top swing position. Hopefully this drill can help you improve your tempo. Note that this is only a drill but I do see many golfers building the pause at the top (maybe just a split second instead of a second) into their actual swing.

Seems like lots of people have the same problem. The above mentioned drill worked well for me. Another drill is to try and hit a long club a short distance e.g. A 5 iron to 100m. Feel the tempo
