this is the patent of 1967. patent filing was a lot simpler back then but not anymore.



when it expired in 1984, many golf companies used this design to great success. those who were using the design prior to that was probably paying a royalty for doing so.

technically its not copying (imitated) but using a proven design that change the toe and heel weighting. as we can see the sound slot was also part of the 1967 design to create the "Ping" sound on impact.

Solhelm Karsten was an engineer and he is instrumental in changing the way putters and irons are made in the modern era.

since you are on this subject, i would like to share a few more things with you....

a lot of time, golf companies talk about innovation, technology and performance. ....here's an example.









the designers and engineers at Callaway probably did not think it was significant enough and never used their design. someone else did. i may be wrong but thats how it is sometimes.
