| Hi Guys,
Just to clarify, a USGA handicap is accepted at all golf courses in Singapore, including Marina Bay Golf Course.
Any official handicap system is recognised by my golf kaki, be it USGA, CONGU, etc.
If somebody who has an existing valid handicap wishes to transfer the maintenance of his handicap into my golf kaki, the handicap is definitely recognised, be it from malaysia, england, canada or japan.
Someone who does not have a valid handicap will have to go through the due process of playing a courtesy round with a member of the club's handicap committee. This is the same requirement for any properly run golf club, estateless or otherwise.
This is a seperate issue from the conditions required to join my golf kaki as an associate member. The club's charter mentions that associate membership is only available to individuals who are already a member of a golf club that is registered with SGA in some form or another. It is not about whether the MGA handicap is recognised or not.
my golf kaki membership comes with golfing privileges at OCC as well as at MBGC amongst other perks.
At the end of the day, the product is transparent, it is up to each individual to decide if they wish to purchase it.
smallhorse, to answer your question objectively, you might want to ask yourself the following questions (I am assuming you are Singaporean or PR):
1. Am I planning to play at OCC often? 2. Am I already a NTUC member?
If yes to both, then no brainer, my golf kaki best choice If no to both, then no brainer, there are other associate clubs that are cheaper If yes to either one, then up to your personal preference

| Derek,
The issue is that all we want is join as Associate Member and not have MGK maintains our handicap, so I don't see why they don't accept any other handicaps except from those clubs that are registered with SGA.
I used to be an Associate Member for a few years and that was when NTUC was managing it in which I have had no issue whatsoever with my Palm Springs Batam handicap card. Back then Palm Spring wasn't even affliated with USGA.
Anyway, MGK has every rights to change the T&C and all I can do is not to join as a full member.
Cheers. | |

| Hi Derek, for my case, I join NTUC member and MGK associate member as they recognize all USGA handicap regardless whether is maintained by MGA or SGA. After few years, MGK change its T&C and refuse my renewal because handicap wasn’t maintained by SGA. Still paying union member fees until now. Don’t know why they insist on SGA since MGA also recognized by USGA. | |

| Hi Nutty and Kuan, I regret that the current membership benefits of being a full member are not attractive enough to entice both of you to join . However, the current requirement for membership in a existing SGA member (ordinary or associate) is unilkely to change. I will be working hard to source new opportunities for member benefits and I hope one day both of you can consider rejoining my golf kaki as full members. In the meantime, thank you for your comments. It helps me better understand the general sentiment and plan how to improve. Good Golfing! Derek | |

| hi Derek,
Can I assume that you are working for MGK?
Honestly, all I need is to join as Associate Member to get the golfing insurance + the opportunity to play OCC once a while. I really don't need MGK to maintain my handicap since it is maintained by my home club which charges RM20 a year. Why would I even want to pay so much more for MGK to maintain it? Afterall, my handicap card is recognised worldwide with its affliation to USGA. Moreover, I still have to pay S$100+ annually to maintain as a UNION member which is a prerequisite to becoming a MGK member. So can you kindly enlighten me what benefits are there to entice me to sign up as a full member?

| Hi Nutty,
Yes, I recently joined MGK as their manager. However, I have been a member of GR for much longer.
It may now be time to seperate my work role and my personal opinions within this forum.
Allow me some time to speak to Sunny and Missmoon to see how we can set this up.
In the meantime, if you could provide me with your email, I can send you a pdf that summarizes all the membership perks.

| I am a MGA (malaysia golf association) member. I have no problems in submission of scorecards. I would just scan and email to them. They send monthly handicap updates to me. If I were you, just maintain in malaysia. I don't see a need in transferring. | |

hi, this is precisely what I have been doing instead of getting a company to maintain it in Singapore.

| hi Derek,
I guessed you missed my point completely. Anyway, I know MGK has its rights to dictate its policies, so its either I join as a full member or not join MGK at all. Well, my decision has been the formal since the day the policy was changed.
On a side note, does MGK have statistics in terms of how many ex-members they have turned away since the change in policy?
