| Dear Golf Brothers and Sisters,
I like to transfer my handicap maintenance from Malaysia and was wondering which ones in Singapore gives the best price and ease.
I do know it is really subjective, but I like to get some opinions before making a decision.

| I think it'd have to be Mygolfkaki. I'm facing the same predicament. | |

| Few years back, Mygolfkaki doesn't recognise Malaysia handicap. Not sure if they allow you to transfer. | |

| If you have a letter from your club which confirms the validity of your handicap and agree to the transfer, then I think there should be no problem.
I'm pretty sure MGK recognizes handicaps from M'sian clubs.

Don't know but it seems unlikely since MGK needs a letter from the home club to transfer hcap maintenance across. This would mean that the home club is no longer responsible for hcap maintenance, right? That's my guess.

smallhorse SH, Any particular reason for transferring your h'cap from M'sia to SGP? My h'cap is currently maintained with MGA and I have made checks with SGA that both the GAs of M'sia & SGP are affiliated to the USGA, thus all golf courses that recognize the h'cap issued by SGA should do likewise h'cap issued by MGA and vice versa......

The original idea was costs savings. After many years, the price to maintain it, is almost the same. But due to work, it is increasing very challenging to renew in the Malaysia club where I played often. So i am thinking of moving it back to Singapore to maintain my handicap. It's not that I do this often, but would love to find our how and if any similar experiences can be shared, it will be good.

How about the AAGolf ones? I drive, so, the AA makes it another option. But i have not tried any, so I am open to suggestions if I can get some here.

Don't know but it seems unlikely since MGK needs a letter from the home club to transfer hcap maintenance across. This would mean that the home club is no longer responsible for hcap maintenance, right? That's my guess. You can still maintain your handicap with your home club in Malaysia and still join MGK. So instead of joining MGK as Ordinary Member (for those who want MGK to maintain their Hcp) you join MGK as Associate Member which is about $60 something per year. But please take note that you have to be a Union Member before you can join MGK. Hope that helps.

| The only downside for me in keeping my hcap in Malaysia is that the submission of score cards is a pain. Otherwise, there's no big incentive for me to move my hcap to SG. | |

Mloy, no you can't join as associate membership unless the current handicap is maintained by a club that is recognised or registered with SGA. I had this issue with MGK before as my handicap was maintained by Poresia, which is registered under MGA that has affliation with USGA. When I wanted to renew my Associate Membership, MGK wrote to me stating that I need to submit my handicap card. Upon realizing that it is maintained under MGA, they refused to renew and insisted that I sign up as a full member in which MGK will then begin to maintain my handicap. I did write in twice and didn't get a reply at all from MGK, thus I decided to terminate the MGK membership altogether.

| Agree with nutty88, below is from MGK website.
Note: Associate members are required to have a valid handicap from a local club affiliated or associated to the Singapore Golf Association. Please note that golfers with handicap maintained by overseas clubs are not eligible for Associate membership application.

Hi nutty88, you are right. My mistake for I forgot to state that my handicap is now currently being maintained by SGA Golf Club Pte Ltd. Intially I joined MGK as Ordinary Member because I wanted MGK to maintain my hcp and give up SGA but then they wanted a letter from SGA and I kind of got lazy and never got around to it so continued renewing with SGA and changed my MGK Ordinary Member to Associate Member. Anyway my main reason to join MGK was to play at OCC with my Brudders.

| I was actually damn pissed off with MGK. In their letter to me, they referenced USGA all over the place and only 1 statement cited SGA. In my reply to them, I stated that my handicap card is issued by Poresia which is registered with MGA and MGA is affliated with USGA. Since MGA follows the guidelines required by USGA which is similar to that of SGA, I don't see why it is not recognized. My personal guess is that it has something to do with money. | |
