Always thought you were using cleveland wedges....

I was, and they served me very well. But I wanted a change. Except for my driver, most of my stuff has changed.

NICE!!! cant wait to see it.....and judging from Monica and Blee's reaction last sunday, your investments seem to be paying off....

Well, I'm paying Monica for my losses and Blee's a nice bloke... so they're helping me numb the pain of my errors.

I mostly use 60 degree for almost anything below 80m. high ball, soft land and stop.
can even help me in marina bay stupendously deep bunker.

Before that, used to just use 56 and 52. So it's either you are the type to puch it and let it roll or the type that will lob it on the green, those will determine your wedges preference.

Speaking about wedges, Miura K Grind, Y Grind and C Grind. Anybody tried them?

I used to be able to handle a 60 but more recently opted for a 58. I think I manage that better. A 60 can be tricky and requires precision... which sadly, is more miss than hit for me.

I hope I can be good enough to use titleist

Many times, the news that many use such wedge to play and win tourney....given me the perception that its more for the 'better golfer'

Stay tune....if I can also use, you can too

Dear Titleist,

I am not a good golfer...nor am I even average....but I do get by. If you are looking for success story for the ave joe, do let me know....I can share with you during my next game.....but to get your expectation, it will be score < 120.....

I can be contacted by pm.....and good news, I don need any $ for the success story...just one sleeve of nxt a month...will do

Thank you

yours very sincerely,
D (a seasoned beginner)

Thanks a lot for your sharing winston. I always puzzle how they "brake" the ball upon landing.

the above info was gathered with the help of Pusslice's PM and trial and testing on the practice green.

Would I be able to go to the BFG at Keppel to determine how much loft my wedges are?
I only got the A and S wedges for my Hogan's Apex.
The A gives me 120-130m whilst the S i can hardly reach 80m.
So i am in severe need fo more wedges..but need to know what to get..

thanks for the advice!

just had to officially look at winston's signature...

Hi mickey,

don't forget u also have to consider the bounce of the club if u getting those higher loft. u can check the vokey website for more information on how to select club and also on bounce

btw pan west are selling cleveland cg 15 wedges at 89 only. not fantastic but pretty decent wedge

Thanks Leo, this is quite a good deal, saving $100 from the titleist for 2 wedges.

Any recommendation which pan west shop has the most selection?

Please don't call me anh...makes me feel very uncomforatble leh....the pics are not all viet girls. previously they were...now it is all mixed. There are however some that are classified as "private collection"

And the things I commented on are just my opinions on what I personally tried and advice from Pushslice.

mickey,

whats the loft of your Pw??

generally, there shd be a 4-5* gap from your Pw to your next wedge

eg

if Pw is 47*
then your Aw can be between 50-52*
follow by your Sw 54-56*

thus if your Pw is 100m
then Aw will be 90m
then Sw will be 80m

i think both the Aw n Sw shd be a priority before u got a lob wedge (58-60*).....

btw, most ppl cant tarik a wedge shot like the pros do on TV.... and if u are always short of the hole, why would u want to tarik the ball??

typically, most social golfers just want the ball to check n skid but roll towards the pin.......

happy shopping....

PostSubject: Re: New Lease of Life - What Wedge to buy?   New Lease of Life - What Wedge to buy? - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 12, 2011 2:19 am

Slinger,

My Nike PW is 45 deg and AW is 50 deg.

I am a slow swinger, so PW for me is at most 80m, AW should be 60m.

According to this configuration, my SW should be 60m and below - of which a 56 or 58 should suit me up to 60m (if I want only 1 wedge), and another 60 if I really wish to pitch high.

However, I am changing to a used MX-25, of which the PW has a loft of 46 deg. No AW for this set. Meaning I might get a 52 deg wedge for the AW replacement and a 56 deg for bunkers. Or a 50, 54 and 58 to maintain the 4 deg difference from PW.

Now deciding should I just go for the $89 CG 15 or the $139 Vokeys. Savings of $100 for 2 wedges between the 2. Gut feel for my level tells me that CG 15 is good enough.

Based on the mizuno PW's 46 deg, I think I should go for a 50 (AW), 54, 58 deg OR a 50(AW), 56, 60 deg, OR if only 2 wedges, 52 (AW) and 58.

Thus my options:

Mizuno MX-25's PW = 46 deg

1. 50, 54 & 58 deg (4 deg difference from PW) - best case if have money and getting 3 wedges.
2. 50, 56 & 60 Deg;
3. 52 & 58 deg (6 deg difference from PW)
4. 50 & 56 deg.

Used to have a MX-25. Together with its PW, I added a 52 and 58. works well. I have another set of wedges; 52,56 and 58 in the storeroom.

One thing i faced when having so many wedges is that it tends to complicate your decisions when you are approaching the green. Imagine 3 wedges....and for me a full swing and half swing and sometimes, quarter swing) together with chipping. All in all, its 9 types of shots.

Nowadays i try to keep it simple and having a 52 and 58.

Also, a 60 wedge is not easy t0 handle.

And yes, the CG15 is a good wedge.
