| I witness the grandmaster hitting out a ball forward from a deep pot bunker and he was using a 54 rather than a H wedge. Impressive. | |

- How deep is the mbgc bunker sia... I only play in m'sia courses ... Not very challenging one ... I guess 56 will be fine for me ... I've 52,56 & 60 ... Just that I'm curious on whether 60 is a better option for sands ... Guess that will be up to individual again... It's like there is no definite answer in golf ... E.g the debate on forged and cast irons ...
Never really measure how deep they are but they are deeper than my height (1.69m). Almost all bunkers got stairs to help you to come down and get up from it. | |

| There are conditions that warrant a 56 deg versus a 60 deg wedge. Sand wedges usually have more bounce than lob wedges. Bounce is your friend on a sand wedge, not so much on a lob wedge, since according to the name, they serve different purposes. It's not a hard and fast rule though.
Normal sand - a loft of 54-56 degrees with 10-12 bounce would be a good all around club.
Wet or packed sand - less bounce (8 degrees) helps the wedge dig in a little more and skim through less sand.
Fluffy or powedery sand - more bounce helps the club skim more and dig less.
Steep angle of attack with bunker swing - more bounce
Shallow angle of attack ala Justin Rose - less bounce
Opening up the face of a wedge adds bounce and vice versa. So if you're caught in a pot bunker with normal sand then a 60 deg would be fine. But if you're in a pot bunker with wet sand, then you have to guard against opening up the face too much as this adds more bounce. The added loft may give you the confidence to get the ball high enough in the air, but the increased bounce could lead to a skulled shot. Experience will tell you in the end how how much of loft and bounce would be the right mix to get you out of trouble.
