| Hi bros, I've got 56 and 60 degree wedges ... Which one is better for the bunker?? Understand that 56 is the usual SW with higher bounce ... But isn't higher loft easier to blast the ball out of the bunker?? Thanks ... | |

Thanks ... Instead of choosing which club to bring. Why don't you bring both? Just like TW wedge combo set. TW carries a 56 & 60* With 56, you can de-loft it to 52 and 54* for your approach shot and with 69, you can also de-loft it to 58 for your lob/flop shot and 60 for your sand shots Golf Pro's nowadays who uses 56 are a few. Tom Watson uses 56 and Bill Haas is 54*

Thanks ... It's the bounce that does the 'blasting' function, not the loft. Take both wedges, try some bunker shots, and you'll find out why the higher bounce makes it easier to the get the ball out.

| I would say that it depends on the bounce you have but assuming that both club has the same bounce, it would depend on how high the bunker is I guess. | |

| If higher bounce SW is easier to blast the ball out, what is the advantage of using a LW for sands? For higher bunker? Do most of the pros use SW or LW ?

| Pros aim to hole out from bunker or put near... amateurs or beginners like us, aim to hit out. | |

| just use any wedge with at least 10 degree bounce
gw 52 goes lower and further sw 56 goes high and near lw 60 goes higher and nearer
most pros can use any wedge bcoz they go skillzzz. we hackers should simplify our choices and based it on the distance you want to carry ball out of the bunker. Same swing, same bounce.
How to know distances? practice lor

With higher loft, the launch angle is higher, the ball will fly higher but shorter. So if the lip is high, higher loft is called for, achieved either by using a higher lofted club or opening up the face of the club. But point to note, with a more lofted club, more precision is required because you are presenting a smaller effective surface area to the point of impact. For example, on a thin lie on the fairway, it is easier to chip with say a 9 iron or a PW, compared with a 60 deg wedge, for the same reason. The advantage of using a higher loft like LW is that one can impart more spin on the shot. For instance, if the pin is cut close, not a lot of green to work with, and the green is fast and sloping away from you, that's when more spin is required.

| loft is launch angle applicable on whether you're in bunker or on fairway. bounce I think is something to do with the thickness of the sole of the club, normally used to bounce the club on sand bunker (since you're hitting behind the ball). My home club is MBGC, so 60 for me is a must since my skill is still lousy and sometimes even this failed to get the ball out | |

| From a practical perspective ... what type of bunkers do you face on the courses that you usually play on?
If for example, you play at Marina Bay often, with Pot bunkers, a 60 deg is going to be a useful tool
However, a 56 degree is more versatile, and easier to use. It will also get you out of the vast majority of bunkers with the correct technique.
If you do not intend to play at MBGC often, suggest that you go with a 56.

| How deep is the mbgc bunker sia... I only play in m'sia courses ... Not very challenging one ... I guess 56 will be fine for me ... I've 52,56 & 60 ... Just that I'm curious on whether 60 is a better option for sands ... Guess that will be up to individual again... It's like there is no definite answer in golf ... E.g the debate on forged and cast irons ... | |

However, sometimes hit backwards also need 60 degree ... especially if the bunker has not enough sand has not been topped up for a while Discovered two more ways to escape from MBGC pot bunkers. 1. If near to either left or right side of the bunker wall, launch a low shot into the curved wall, the ball will slingshot around the wall and exit the other side. Saw someone do this by accident and that gave me the idea to try it for fun. In what situation it will be useful, I don't know. 2. If the wall is just a little out of clearance height, I still try. Hit harder and allow for the ball to bump off the front wall up towards the sky. Ball comes down and lands dead since it is literally going straight up and coming straight down after contact with the wall. No guarantees of course, but I'll take any option to try and get out in one.

| Angle must be just about right la.... Cannot too close to the wall... agar-ration is like a modified bump and run. | |
