rust and refinish of scotty circa 62 putter

So i have this putter, and it is pretty dinged up and rusting like crazy. I would really like to freshen up or paint over it to stop it from rusting. Any experts can help me with this problem?

Here's my recommendation :

1) Strip the current finish to raw finish.
2) Soak the head in a small bucket of white vinegar (Narcissa brand) t
3) Use a toothbrush to srcub the hard w/ Jif (kitchen-cleaning solution)
4) Finish with very mild sandpaper
5) Stray with silicon lubricant or WD40.
6) Let it air-dry
7) Finish with gunblue solution if any.

Paint-filling is more painstaking and need to be careful with . My recommendation is for you to check out a hobby shop (In Sunshine Plaza) . They have paint remover and the Tamiya hobby paints which are the best . If not, pay a small fee and ask them to pay for you . They have the brushes and i think they can do a solid job

Wouldn't sandpaper and re-painting it take away the soft milled face finish of the SC putter?
Thus, taking away the feel and roll consistency of the putter?

I was told by a club fitter that Scotty do not take in any putters for refurbishment any more....True?

very mild sandpaper will only smoothen the surface. I don't think it will do much "harm" to the milling. I don't really think it willl affect the fee; & roll. If you are really worried, you can always leave the face alone from the sanding. I guess it's where the rust is at.
