| Even though won by the thinnest of margin, a win is still a win. At least for the next 6 years, I know life is going to be more predictable other than the turmoils caused by external factors. Well done, the matured citizens of Singapore! Appreciate what the present Govt have done in the past despite current flaws in the system. Hope they can fine tune slowly now that they realized what Singaporeans really want. For those current generation of disbelievers, opposing just for the sake of opposing is dangerous asking for something which you do not know. Please imagine that you are living in those 2/3 parties system in other countries like India, Africa, Middle East, USA. UK, Europe..... with daily lives threatened by suicide bombers anytime, anywhere. Don't be too envious of other people. Work hard in life and you will enjoy the fruits of labour from personal efforts and not spoonfelt by parents so much that now its time to move out that you just realised life is not so easy as it seems and believes its the faults of others and not yourself. I don't get where I am from complaining. I ROD on a Friday and started working right away on the following Monday. I stayed with the same Company from the bottom rung until got retrenched off due to recession about 10 years ago. Initially, I was pissed off because of Govt policy but through time and awareness of other troubled economies and social unrest of other countries,, I became more appreciative of what PAP have done for the country. At least I know my children lived in a safer environment. To Dr Tony Tan, All by best wishes for the next 6 years and show what you can do instead of those making promises that they know they can't keep. Indeed Heaven have eyes. Tituman Forever

| Devil advocate is not a bad thing. The role of the opposition is to remind the incumbent that there are options out there for ppl. I do agree that majority power is the best to ensure continuity of initiative and policy, but it will need a counter force to make sure it stays at the right track. And I think here in singapore at least the majority balance is getting more and more threaten by individual action and policy that is counter productive / unpopular to the voter based on the last GE results. I hope this is a wake up call for them on both fixing things that is wrong and more importantly, marketing what went right.
nothing is perfect, but if we are willing to put in the effort we can get near to it.
All in all, great country, great goverment so far and I hope a great new President as well. Congratulation to Tony Tan on his presidency.

| I think that the greatest challenge for the country is now that TT is elected that we can move forward. Based on the issue of the NS record of his 3 sons it would be difficult not to say that there is some abuse of power. however, we can never be sure! It would be good that TT set the record straight but addressing the issues of his sons NS records as well as his performance in GIC and the losses.
I m for stability to move forward but there is lingering concerns of how the PAP is addressing normal concerns of Singapore citizens by birth! Cheers and good weekend.

| that's why I said we need opposition to put things in check and ensure that those in power do not abuse it due to the absence of a pair of watching eyes. Obviously all this in the spirit of putting the interest of the nation ahead of the party. Nowadays Policitical party seems to be there for self gratification and putting their interest and motives ahead of the very people that they were supposed to serve. When this sympthoms gets cronic and wide spread the downfall of that country is just a matter of time.
Again all just personal view and opinion and should not be constituted as an absolute truth but more of a food of though to tinker with.
I still think PAP did very very well despite of their few glitches which is still pale in comparison to what they delivered for the country in the past few decades.

I was gonna say, TKL and TJS think they are playing Sim City, a computer game I use to play as a young boy. I felt great satisfaction when I was able to dicate the city like a 'god'. Even influence the weather. People might disagree with me but when our elected President said in one of his speaches ' to run for the President's post of today' really summed up what campaigning for the President's post was all about. Not to try and 'change' Singapore. But to have visions and aspirations to improve Singapore and take Her forward from where She is today. You might say I'm a conservative but I think it's just being pragmatic. Confidence for the future.

| About 65% did not vote for either TT or TCB although they share the majority vote count. Perhaps there should be some sort of 'sudden death playoff' for the 2 to see who gets the real mandate considering that the number of spoilt votes accounted to quite a fair bit! | |

| From the GE and PE, I finally realise ido have frds who support opposition and also realise some of their thinking. We are currently in a very fragile time and I feel that it's not really a time to let them try. But I do believe it's good to I've opposition but however it is, dun think they can make any change to your life if you dun work hard enough.

| In our constitution, debates are done during Parliament seating especially for that purpose. Electing a President and wanting him to act as an opposition, then thats totally not in its constitution. The GE is over. Lets first let the successful opposition party see whether they deserve to be elected or not. Or just blow air so that they get $15k every month for the next 4 years. Lets see. | |

"God only helps those that helps themselves". Similarly, if one doesn't help themselves in the first place, no amount of government policies will be able to help (short of handing out direct cash reliefs which will bankrupt the Nation monetarily, physically and spiritually in no time). Its very odd where do all these arbitrary ideas originate from.

| The power of the EP has always been limited since its inception. There was never any intention for the Cabinent to answer to the EP.
For me the issue is not the issue of abilities. The issue is transparency. As I have mentioned earlier, there is issue of integrity and working for the Singaporean by birth. there is an issue with TT record as Defence Minister or Cabinent Minister when his sons were serving NS. The other issue is that all singaporean have to serve Full time NS + NS ICT. The questions should be addressed as TT is now the EP. Does he work for the people interest?
These issues seem minor but its not becos the majority of us do Full time NS + ICT till 40. I hope that this will be addressed for the greater good of Singaporean. Cheers.
