As a foreigner, my son gets his chance to register at Phase 3 (after all Singaporeans and PRs gets in)

I've studied the "market" by joining Kiasuparents forum, I visited the schools, and chose two "unpopular" schools in nearby Siglap/Bedok area; Opera Estate and East Coast Primary as back up.

Marine parade schools are not an option for foreigners. Too high in demand.

I just want a nearby school for my son so that the bus services cover my home.....but the latest stats are worrying...many schools in bedok are also balloting since 2c No

for GR fellas who have registered your son/daughter; congratulations!

for those who are still hunting for spaces; all the best!

I am stressed!

Have you tried Yu Neng or Red Swastika? They're supposedly good schools in Bedok that's not too difficult to apply...

thanks bro

These two are two of three most popular schools in Bedok. The other is Temasek Pri. Not evengh places for Sporeans.

There is zero chance for my son bro. the top schools are rightfully for Sporeans.

I wonder - does the 1km rule really work, i.e. do residents within 1km actually get priority?

according to Kiasuparents.com, yes they do.

is that why you moved nearby?

Nope, not really. But I was just curious... it's some way to go before Josh gets to P1.

haha. yes they do.... in the scenario whereby there the demand exceeded eg.Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) has places only for children who have registered in the school and are living within 1 km and between 1 km and 2 km of the school. Therefore children living outside 2 km of the school are unsuccessful in their registration. No balloting will be conducted in the school.

i am just wondering, is 2C result out already?

Few years ago tried putting my boy in a neighborhood 'popular' school, 100+ places got 300+ application, so didn't kena. He went to not popular school and doing decent there.

This year my girl's turn. Brand new school got 235 places for phase 2c also oversubscribed. Faint......... Hope she can make it through the balloting

Goodness.. didn't know they're so sought after, was wondering why my sister who's teaching in Yu Neng always seems so stressed around PSLE time. Student no stress, teacher lose weight...

Good luck with the registration bro... worse come to worse try tampines or simei lah... got straight bus from ur place no. 31.. hehe..

Not that i need to start worrying any time soon, but how do you know when they're oversubscribed? I live less than 500m from a fairly popular primary school and there's way in hell i'm volunteering 40 hours....unless it's to teach them the secret arts of the half-swing....

do they tell you upfront?

Which is why I moved to my present place.....

Both primary n secondary schools within 1km.... N they are affiliated Very Happy

Just hoping we make the right choice.....

Likewise, I doubt I have the community service in me, unless it's about imparting the dark art of buayaism......

@GF, check out kiasuparents.com, they got plenty of info....

If it's fairly popular school, having SM Goh as your golf kaki will go some way.....

haha.

Daveha: if u r thinking of putting ur kids into a good primary school, start volunteering 2 years before they enter. As far as I know, St Hilda's Pri take in parent volunteer 2 years before the child goes into Primary one.

I placed my girl inside Tampines Pri School (which is approx 500m from my address) because St Hilda's too overwhelming. The school has 118 seats available and 123 children regiestered. The school will actually will decide depending on the distance... to ballot...

Pushslice, I know what u mean even though I registered my son in phase 2B (due to church affiliation).

There were 57 places, and when I got to the school at 9:30am to register on the 1st day, I was already 30th in the queue. HELP affraid

In the end, there were 63 registrants, and balloting was conducted for those living beyond 2km of the school.

Thank God I was in the 1-2km radius Cheers Jump
