PostSubject: Mizuno MP iron lie angle.   Mizuno MP iron lie angle. I_icon_minitimeFri Jul 29, 2011 12:22 pm

Recently I'm thinking to bend my Mizuno MP58 since I feel it's toe upright when I address. However, I found that the addressing may not indicating the try lie angle fits me. Because when I swing and impact the ball, the lie angle may be compensated. I know it's a good way to judge by monitoring the divot on course. Wondering does anyone know how Mizuno do custom fitting when you buy from Golf House? I didn't fit when I bought my set. Don't know how do they determine the lie angle.

Or anyone knows how Ping do it?

Did mine at Golf House. Impact tape and tape at sole to determine lie. Shaft optimizer to determine shaft. My pleasant surprise finding out I need a thicker grip and yes, feels better now.

Yup, lie angle at address means diddly squat ... however height & wrist-to-floor measurements can be a decent "starting point", but only that!

The tried and tested way of doing it is to hit off a lie board. I'd imagine any decent club fitter would be having that.

Technology has come a long way ... so maybe there are more advanced ways of doing it .. e.g. Mizuno optimizer etc.

Havent dealt with Golf house myself, but sorting out dynamic lie angles is a walk in the park for club fittters.

Seems a lie board is the way to fit indoor. Thanks for reply

Adjusting of the lie angle has no fix formula. So it doesn't mean when u r of X height, u should have y lie angle. It's more like a fine tuning process. I will hit on the course for a few sessions and feedback to the fitter. A range session can only do that much but eventually, it's wat happen on the course that is important. The way u are set up may not be the way u are impacting the ball.

ppl say a lot of amusing things ... but fact is there are far too many factors that contribute to lie angle .. some are your physical attributes (height, wrist to floor, etc), and some are swing related (steep vs shallow swings). Heck even your weight , physique, flexibility and so many other factors contribute ..

All of the above result in your lie angle at impact ... if you are presently swinging all over the place, and your swing is still rapidly evolving, my advice would be to stick to standard length and lie (assuming your are of "normal/ average" build)

Having an upright swing earlier I could have gone with matching lie angles , but I resisted, and worked my swing down to a more solid plane ... I could have gone for a draw offset driver back when I was slicing profusely ... but I didnt ... I put in the hard work ... and am now beginning to reap the benefits Beer

I think you made a very valid point here. Given the multiple factors that might contribute the true lie angle, I think I should stick to the standard angle now for a while and monitoring the result on course. I'm also going through change of swing, putting in a lot effort to get the club on plane and square the club face. Maybe it's not a good time to change any lie angle at the moment until I more or less fix my swing. However, I do want to rule out this factor so when my ball goes left or right, I know it's either my swing path or club face not square, not because of the lie angle.

Here LIES the dilemma (no pun intended) ... you don't know your "desired/ ultimate" lie angles ... some of the best golfers have had upright/ flat lie angles (Luke Donald, of average build, has fluctuated from upright to standard in the past 3 years) ... the golf swing is a journey, with no precise destination ... you could end up anywhere ... and hence never be able to rule out this factor unless you have one moderately consistent swing and then get fitted to it!

In a nutshell , if you were to get your lie angles fitted now , it would be to a swing that you may want to revamp/ change/ improve!

Anyways, the above is just my rationale for ME not getting fitted just yet. There are a lot of ppl who feel otherwise, and recommend fitting asap

you rationale applies to me as well. I always think of tuning my swing before fitting, in fact I never fit my golf clubs, even the shaft flex also chosen by my gut feel.

However, my benefit of club fitting probably is building up confidence.

Even pros nowadays are always changes swings, but of course they can get club fitted every month again. For us, at least for me, have to adopt to the clubs instead of making the clubs keep adopting me...

if you suspect your club is too upright..your misses should go to the left more often (especially on shots you feel like you hit it good but surprisingly ball go left)

if ball goes everywhere without any pattern, then its your swing bro.

the balls may not go everywhere all the time, depends on their mood I suppose Smile Recently I've been struggling with my grip and get the club face square at impact. driving me nuts.
