For Mizuno iron owners, I have been wondering about this.   How soft are the Mizuno forged irons?  Been reading a lot of reviews on Mizuno that Grain flow forged is the softest feeling forged iron.

I'm interested in these models:
JPX 825 Pro
MP H4

My experience from soft --> "harder"

Epon --> Mizuno --> MG/Titleist

I am referring to Mizuno and Titleist Forged models.

Hi superputt, your post is very timely. I recently embarked on a project to choose my shortlisted forged irons. I tested on the same shafts: 712 AP2, TM TP CB, and Mizuno MP54s.

I am almost concluded on Mizuno now. I was looking for the best feel. I also previously posted about my transition from AP1 (cast) to Ap2 (forged) and how difficult it is to describe the soft feeling into words. People will quote buttery soft, so maybe you can imagine sticking a shaft into a block of butter and hitting a golf ball with it.

I just want to share my experience with the MP54s. At address, they look like a knife compared to my previous AP1s. Visually it is very thin top line and really traditional looks with all the chrome. I don't know why but when I look down at address, I feel like I can hit it out of any kind of rough because it is so sharp.

Again I don't know how to describe the feeling of soft. But the 1st time I hit my 7i sweet on the course, I turned over to look at my partner and said "did you hear that?". The sound……is so true…..how should I say it…..it is not loud at all…..but at the same time it's a menacing and intense sound. Think modified Honda Civic compared to a stock M3.

The feeling is a big difference to cast irons, actually also very different to the AP2s and TP . The mini-explosion in my hands last for a very very short time, but 2 times more intense. It's a much denser feeling than AP1 (cast), and leaves you wanting very quickly because it only lasts for a fraction of a fraction of a second.

I'm not sure if I made sense here but hope I helped.

I still keep a set of mp 33 at home. for nothing else other than sentimental nostalgic "best feel ever" reasons.

On my second mizuno set. Haven't looked back since. There are better well.made japanese forged irons around. Eg micra,  Romano. But they are going for about 180 to 240 per head.

Hence I would conclude that mizuno for the price you pay is the best around.

Have tried MP58, 59, 53, 68. The MP68 was the softest for me. Great feel at impact

If u are looking at jpx825 pro, there is a set in the marketplace going for 380. Good value.

I use the JPX825 forged (JDM) with nspro950, a little softer feeling than my friend's JPX825 pro with project x, but could be because of the shaft. Both are plenty soft. Never tried the MP series so can't compare.

Performance wise they are ok. Not as forgiving as big cavity cast game improvements from Ping, Mizuno, or TM if you top it. Not a great iron if you top it a lot. Also not as long as my friends Rocketbladez tour.

On the positive side, since you get that soft sensation from solid strike, I tend to think less about distance after switching to these irons and focus more on getting a solid strike.

Rocketbladez tour and non-tour have stronger loft and longer shaft if I remember correctly.
Can check out their spec from their website.
As compared to my more traditional loft, the newer irons (not limited to TM), are about 2-3 deg stronger, depending on which iron and about 1/4" longer if not 1/2".

This is often overlooked when comparing distance.

The mizuno JPX series loft are jacked pretty heavily on the mid to short irons (6-PW) compared to the RBZ tour. While the rocketbaldez tour are very jacked up on the 3-5 irons. So both are guilty of not having 'traditional' loft. As far as I can remember, only few brands such as Ping irons up to G25 have reasonable lofts for large cavity back irons, even the G30 are jacking it up now as well.

The irons I used and compared was the Roketbladez Tour 9 iron (42 loft with KBS Tour Stiff), JPX 825 pro 9 iron (41 loft with project X 5.0 reg) and 825 forged 9 iron (39 loft with nspro950HT reg). The shaft lengths are the same. I hit the rocketbladez the longest, though i do feel the shaft was a bit wieldy, followed very closely by the 825pro. Granted, the shafts are all different and are not custom fitted for me, so please take it with a grain of salt.

BTW guys.  I just hit a MP H4 demo today.  It's a 6 iron with NS Pro 950GH (there is a "grain flow forged" on the hosel).  Not really easy to hit (it goes lower when you don't catch it in the middle, I usually hit about slightly off the toe).  When I hit a solid strike, I just don't get that soft feeling that people are talking about.  Makes me think twice about getting a Mizuno iron.

Hi I think the MP H series is the hollow design. Yes it is also grain flow forged. But I will say don't conclude until you hit their more traditional designs like the 53, 54, 4, 58, 59 and the list goes on.

However, yes I agree with you. If the feel is not right, no matter what the others say about the club, you should not buy it.

The hollow design is only on the long irons, 2 to 4 iron.  5 to PW are just standard iron with wider sole.  It looks really good at address though.  Slightly thicker topline than other cavity back irons.

Also I'm thinking is Forged iron less forgiving than cast iron?  I currently use a Cavity back cast iron.  It feels more forgiving on mishit.

I currently upgraded my irons from Cobra Amp cell to Mizuno JPX 825 Pro (Forge) with NSpro 950 shaft.
I would say that the feel is really soft and give a good feedback and have no regrets over the purchase.

You might want to try the irons at Golf House?

Forged irons is not less forgiving than cast. These are just methods of manufacturing. Forgiving is depends on design of the clubs rather than manufacturing.

I agree with Dreamer. Forgiveness is determined by the offset, size of the club head and depth of the cavity. looking at the JPX series, they would be the most forgiving.

With that said, the materials used (shafts aside) will determine the height of the ball flight, distance travelled, blah blah. In so far, the 714 AP2s is a hybrid of materials and club composition but not the JPX.

imho, both the forge and cast irons feel the same to me, given the level of tech we have today. the sound with a good strike is what differentiates them, like between a vespa and a Harley, see which stirs your loins.

I have my long irons in JPX850 boron, feels good. I really like the med/thin top line at address, just looks right. Center strikes goes miles but you'll get punished for off-center strikes in terms of distance.
