| Hi guys , I have a problem ..
I can't seem to hit cleanly at occ range top level.
The open air area . I'm ok at Bt Batok range, ok n learning at Warren range ..
I'm ok at occ 1st level where it's automated teed and sheltered .
10 balls maybe 1 or 2 top balls.
At the open air mat , 10 balls maybe 1 or 2 balls fly , the rest just plain lousy shots..
Any idea what's wrOng with me ???

Any idea what's wrOng with me ??? hmm how this ... when u encounter u cant hit well at occ top level u go to occ level 1, see if got different. if after going to Lvl 1 u can hit well , mayb its psychological factor, Else you need to work more on ur swing le.

| I think it's perfectly normal. At MBGC, i can't hit well on any level except the bottom level. Same as Laguna, but bo pian, non-members must use the upper bays, so must fight the fear.. | |

| Apart from the psychological, there's one other factor commonly overlooked. Some ranges are not level, this is to facilitate drainage. One range where this is obvious is the one at Eng Neo Avenue, off the old turf club.
You might want to check if the bay tilts ever so slightly forward toward the front. This in effect is a downhill lie, and it leads to topping the ball when playing off the mat.
There's an upside to this. The downward tilt forces you to hit down on the ball even more just to get a proper hit. When you go back to a level lie, you will find that your ballstriking will be very much improved, crisp and pure.

| The outdoor mats might have hardened due to exposure to the elements ... I'll be there for a meeting tomorrow, will help you check.
However, it must be said, range mats are about the easiest surface to hit off, so I guess more practice is in order.

| yes yes yes, im lousy .
Cant get the consistency of hitting the balls cleanly.
Everyone else beside me in the bays are doing perfectly fine, guess i do have to practise more.
I do feel i have to dig "deeper" into the mat to get it flying. And yep, the mats are hardened where its slightly patchy . The sheltered level one mats are okay for me. lol.. guess i have to get used to differnt terrains..

If you strike the ball first before the surface (be it mat, grass, sand, etc ...) then your ball will fly. Also, if you are using modern clubs (except the pure blades), you might benefit from a slightly more shallow angle of attack, i.e. coming in more from the inside. All clubs are built with bounce, swinging on the right path will allow the bounce to help you strike the ball. If you are swinging outside to inside, the attack angle is pretty steep and even a bit of deviation with result in poor contact. Can discuss more during SSN if u are interested.

| DUn get confused by all the technical terms like angle of attack, out to in, in to out..... Since you are learning with a coach now, just stick to his advice and ask when you have doubts. That is what the coach is for right????

| I don't think there's anyone with an absolute perfect swing everytime all the time, we are only human.
Sometimes it is the 5 inches between your ears that affects your performance.

| I have somewhat similar but not exactly the same experience. In the 2nd level, I don't perform as well as when I was using the ground level bay in OCC range. I was fine with MB range be it ground or 1st level. This is very pecculiar ... | |

| I am a firm believer that one should not waste good shots at the range.......
instead
save them and use them on the actual game.
