| Hello... Newbie here want to know what is give stroke? Everytime hear other golfers say "Give me stroke la!" Like they say 3 3 or 7 7. What does the numbers mean? Can anybody explain to me | |

| it is a match play format.
In each hole, the golfer who gets the ball in the hole with the least stroke win a hole. When you tally up all the holes won or lost, you will have the winner. If both golfers get the ball in the hole in the same number of strokes, the hole is said to be 'halved'.
When they say give strokes like 3-3, means the better golfer(a person with a handicap index of 6 lower than the other), give a total of 6 strokes, 3 on front nine holes and 3 on back nine holes. It could be a 3-2 or 2-3 for that matter if only 5 strokes are given.
When you look at the score card, you will noticed that there is something called handicap index on the holes. 1,3,5,7.... on front 9 and 2,4,6,8... on back 9. The lower the number, the more difficult the holes.
If someone give you 3-3, that means that the most difficult 3 holes on front and back 9, you have additional 1 stroke. for each hole. | |

| i think you are reading it out of context. but lawyers tend to do that. occupational hazard. as for me, i can provide all kinds of contexts that u want, just tell me, how many strokes u want? | |
