Same loft, hybrid higher flight, woods lower and more penetrating flight.

On hard and dry ground, the woods shot will roll even more given its lower flight.

Hybrid to clear obstacles or to attempt to land soft on green without rolling past the greens.

i think that if everything is the same, two different outcomes are just an unrealistic expectation....
but based of sole design and swing styles required... I think the hyrids wont work well out of the rought where grass and club face contact are an issue... for this circumstance..... I would use a wood... simply to be able to brush thru the grass..
a more sweeping stroke will not aggitate the grass as much... n

OT a bit... anyone here Inline skates???? new hobby la.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

i skate, but very rusty, think have not touch my skates for 2 years odd...but its something u learn and don't forget. only can't execute some moves as well and not as flexible to do stunts anymore.

one main difference is the shaft...length, type, brand/model, although more 'premium' hybrid shafts are starting to surface recently

Many golfer are anal about their shafts....eg many will not hit any graphite shaft except for a WB. Some even rather play steel shaft in their hybrid or even go for a driving iron instead.

if i'm not mistaken, the years hot list in golf digest had a small column comparing the distance difference between a wood and hybrid of the same loft...

and if i remember correctly, for a swing speed of over 105 mph (for driver), the difference between the 2 clubs was a mere 5 yards...

however, for the average swing speed (95mph) the difference was almost 20 yards...

Speaking for the below average swing speed players (90mph), there is a minimum loft where you will see any benefit regardless of whether it is a hybrid or wood.....and i find that 5 wood or 19* loft is the minimum....anything lower and i don't have the swing speed to get the ball off the ground consistently......

as others have pointed out tho, the length of the shaft plays a big part but at standard lengths, i personally find it difficult to get a 3 wood or a 2 hybrid airborne.....

sidebar....i tried the K15 5 wood on the course over the weekend and it was insanely easy to hit.....high launch and 10m past my own nike FW.....

Actually I think wat most important is we really can fully handle our club. My 5w and 4h is almost same distance. If we manage to control club is like sword if can't is like broom..just my point of view

this is just my personal experience....When i hit my hybrid flush, its just like a long iron, ball flies higher, a few bounce in the green and stops, i will feel good the ball is on the green...but when i flush my 3+ wood and watching the ball fly like your driver shot and rolls for almost 2 on the green on a par 5 (ok a shortish par 5 but still for a short hitter like me..) its a feeling like no other..simply cause its not that easy to hit the 3+ wood (plus for a 2 on, you need 2 great shots in a row + lots of luck in the roll). Sad to say that only ever happened once and ever since the 3+ wood has not been kind (ever since the shaft broke) but the hybrid has been quite decent...still the greatest memory is still the 3+ wood.

long story short, when you flush the 3 wood, it goes a long long way. Not good for your scores (if you want to lower your score, go hybrid..something i have not learn yet) but you must at least try it, even for just that one great shot.

From some website:

Distance Matters
In the distance game, fairway woods are a better option off the tee if you are looking to hit the ball far. According to the Peak Golf Performance Institute, fairway woods and hybrids launched off a tee with similar shafts, grips, and degrees of loft -- 17 degrees -- yielded an average of five yards longer to the fairway wood on 100 center hits. Five yards might not seem like much, but on the golf course that added distance could make a huge difference.

Hybrid and fairway wood performance studies also suggest the each club more ideally fits the golfer when specs are matched correctly to swing speed and player type. Golfers with fast swing speeds are more apt to handle fairway woods with lower loft and stiffer shafts. Conversely, golfers with slower swing speeds should favor hybrids with higher lofts and flexible shafts. This will help golfers get the ball in the air and deliver consistent shots closer to the hole.

I like this story.

I agree, there's nothing like the feeling of finally being able to flush a 3 wood from the fairway.

Getting a bit technical.

GAME OF 21

It's an important number in golf as well as in blackjack. It's the loft where you can carry a 3-iron, hybrid or 7-wood in your bag. To know which club is best for you, try looking at the problem like an engineer.

The center of gravity is a theoretical point inside the clubhead described by the intersection of the X-CG (CG's distance across from the hosel), Y-CG (distance up from the sole) and Z-CG (distance from front to back). This CG location, along with the overall head design, is what makes clubs of the same loft fly differently. "Generally, the greater the Z-CG, the higher the ball will launch," says Nate Radcliffe, metal-wood development manager for Cleveland Golf, who provided the accompanying chart values. A small Y-CG value tends to create extra spin for slow swing speeds, and a smaller X-CG value can encourage a draw.

Better players should choose their 21-degree club based on the landing angle they prefer. Beginners should go with the club that maximizes their total distance and provides the most confidence.
