| YE Yang hit a fantastic 2nd shot to within 2 feet of the pin at hole 13 for an eagle, which will bring him to -5, within 2 strokes of leader Rory. | |

| Yang birdies 15th (after missing the eagle putt) and 16th, and ties Rory for the lead.
Impressive. | |

| Phil gets out of the bunker at hole 11th, the ball passes the pin and rolls towards the water, leaving Phil with a testy 12 footer.
No problem, Phil makes the putt.

His eagle approach caught the slope and trickled down to a two foot putt on 13th - a most impressive shot indeed. But now he is blocked by trees on the 17th. He cuts it over the trees, looks like he's caught in the left bunkers.

After a delicate bunker shot, being careful not to overshoot the pin, he misses the putt for a bogey. Looks like he will finish 1 shot behind Rory. Meanwhile, Phil cuts a tee shot into the bushes at 13th. There goes his chance of making an eagle the like Yang and Sergio.

| Phil takes a shot from the bushes, and puts it back in the fairway.
Phil played this hole with 2 eagles and 2 birdies on his way to winning last year.

| The commentator confuses KJ Choi with YE Yang, calling him YE 3 times as KJ makes a putt. Guess all Koreans look alike to him. | |

I could be wrong; YE has overshot the green at the 18th by some measure.

I could be wrong; YE has overshot the green at the 18th by some measure. His chip lands on the fringe, bounces twice onto the green, and still overshoots the pin by about 8 feet.

Phil played this hole with 2 eagles and 2 birdies on his way to winning last year. After all that, Phil still almost made birdie, his putt burning the edge of the cup. He escapes with a par. He will be mad about this. Hole 13 is a birdie/eagle hole for long hitters like him.

| There's an amateur in the field today called Lion Kim. His parents got the inspiration for the name from, of course, Tiger Woods. Lion won the 85th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship last July to earn a spot in the field today. But, he looks more like Anthony than Tiger though. | |

| On the 14th, Phil messes up his tee shot, still got on the green in his approach, and somehow makes a birdie after all that.
So, if you're going to miss, miss in the right places and make sure you can still approach.

| And just like the 14th, Phil stayed on his back foot in his tee off on the 15th and pulls the shot slightly. Looks like his hips are slowing down with fatigue, affecting his weight transfer. | |

| Quiros was looking good at -5 after 13th.
On the 14th, he misses the fairways and his 2nd shot hits a tree and his bounces deeper into the trees.
There goes his chance of catching Rory today.

| On the replay, McIlroy's pitch shot approach on the 3rd is just STUNNING. It took off low, hit the green running like it will overshoot, and then the spin takes over and the ball checks, turns left, and rolls to a couple of feet from the pin for a birdie putt.
You have to see it to believe it.

No pbm with his 2nd shot from the rough, it reaches the green of this par 5 easily. He misses the downhill eagle putt, and birdies to go -3.

For the par 4 17th, Phil wisely chose not to use the driver, and managed to stay on the fairway. Remember this is where Yang started to blow his joint-lead with a bogey after missing the fairway. Phil now has 175 yard to the green, and lands it safely.

| Phil makes par on the 17th but bogeys 18th to finish the day at -2.
Quiros birdies at 17th and 18th to tie Rory for the lead at -7.

| How about this for a lesson in course management?
Mickelson only hit four fairways — which left him dead last in that category among the field of 99. But he managed to find 12 greens in regulation and took 29 putts. He made three birdies and didn’t drop a shot to par until the final hole.
If you're going to miss the tee shots and the approach shots, miss them in the right places.
