Augusta! Who's staying up to watch the Masters?

Got my beer stocked up, my cashew nuts supply on standby, and took an afternoon nap just now.

I am ready to watch Augusta live on HD tv.

On ESPN, (Channel 832 ESPN HD on Astro B.yond) is starts LIVE at 3 am.

Day 1 preview before that at 2 am.

And just before that, they will show a repeat of yesterday's par 3 contest at 11 am.

So, take your pick and get your Augusta fix...

Is the course too easy for Ross Fisher? 2 Pars, 2 Bogeys and 5 Birdies on the front 9 alone.. impressive!

Yes, Fisher is doing well so far, -4 after 13 holes.

Goosen has caught up, also at -4, after playing 5 holes.

Tiger is even after 2 holes.

McIlroy is on top of the leaderboard for now, having finished the round at -7.

Finally it is live on tv and Tiger is about to hit an approach shot.

It spins back, missing the hole narrowly.

So far, -1 thru 14.

Phil hits a blind approach shot... and it tracks at the flag and lands close! Phil is in good form.

Tiger meanwhile misses a makeable birdie putt. Par.

GMac is struggling at +2. So is Luke Donald (not a good omen to win the Par 3 contest.)

Tiger's tee shot at hole 16 is still not sharp enough, leaving him with a mid-long putt.

Hole 6

This downhill par-3 usually requires no more than a medium iron to the large, undulating green. Put the ball on the wrong part of the green, however, and a three-putt is likely.

Phil just landed on the wrong tier and the ball rolled out of the green. Time to test his famous short game and bring out a magical uphill chip.

Kaymer ends day 1 at +6. Looks like he still can't draw.

And... Phil delivers, landing his chip to a few feet of the hole.

This is why the man wrote the "Secrets of the Short Game" book.

His playing partners who landed on the green, could not even putt within Phil's chip. Which is both a testament to Phil's skill and the trickiness of the green's undulations.

Arjun was asked in the pre round interview whether he was awed to be here for the first time, in view of the history and crowd. He said confidently said no.

He finished day 1 at +6, in front of only two players at the bottom.

Augusta cannot be under estimated, especially on a dry day like this.

Tiger does not look happy after his approach shot at 18, but it turned out pretty good, just past the flag. Chance to end the day at -2.

Missed the tricky putt, -1 for the day.

Tiger is not in contention unless something dramatic happens.

His swing is improved slightly, less wild misses, but still far from what is required to be at the top of the field.
