| Can any experts pls advice me regarding Bending lie angle vs lengthen shaft?
I'm currently playing G15 with yellow dot 1.5 Deg up + 1/2 inch longer
I have a set of ping S57 standard length n standard lie I was thinking of lengthening the S57 by 1 inch . instead of bending lie angle Would this be advisable ? I understanding that by lengthening shaft my iron swing wt will also increase. And that's also what I want. Normal swing wt is D1, I hope that increase lengtwould increase swing wt to D3
Can any one advce me?
Thanks Morgan

| What is seemingly simple almost always is not... Lie and length adjustments affects swingweight, shaft flex, total club MOI and many other things. Generally, the relationship between lie angle and length is that 2 degrees lie angle changes equates 1" length change. (Some clubmakers use a different ratio) Since your G15 is +1.5deg +0.5", that translates to an overall of about +2.5deg upright. But before you take your S57 and just add +2.5deg or 1.25" or combo of both, you need to measure and ascertain both your G15 & S57 original lie and length. Only then can you know your starting point and work out the changes needed. You are correct that lengthening increases swingweight. The general concept is 1" affects SW by about 6 points. So adding 1" would change SW from say D0 to about D6. And that's just the length. My observation so far is people who need more upright and heavier clubs often prefer thicker grips too. And the grip weight affects SW also! Bear in mind that lengthening 1" would soften the shaft flex slightly (about 1/3 to half flex). Does the shaft currently feel too soft or too stiff? Do you need flex tuning? Oh.... I have not even talked about total club MOI yet. Getting lost already? Best to visit your trusted clubmaker.... | |

| its amazing how complicated it is. Interesting to read about what you all know about these adjustments. I came across a short update on titleist players who had multiple adjustments before the recent pga tour event. crazy to see the 2093092332 changes they make. sorry this is off topic i know | |

| they are 2 different configurations that will affect and result in different aspects of the golfer's set up, swing, impact and finishing.
if you get a tall person (over 6 foot) with long arms and you get an average person (5 foot 8) with short arms. you may find it surprise that the shorter guy may need longer clubs.
however the tall person and the shorter person may share the same lie for their irons.
i have post a thread long ago and its linked here...
The Significance of the Right Lie
please excuse my poor illustration skills on powerpoint.

Thanks for all the advice
I know that I can visit DGman.
but becos I'm bending a ping iron. I was told to go back to the spore agent. cos there has been cases where Ping Irons crack during bending cos its cast iron not forged. and if Ping distributor breaks it they will replace a new iron.
but if I were to lengthen the shaft I will definitely go to DGman

One more question if I have yellow dot (1.5deg upright) on my irons 4-9PW. does my 52, 56, 60 deg wedge has to be 1.5deg upright too? or the 3 wedge can be standard lie angle?
pls advice.

if you dare hit(swing) your clubs on the rubber flooring (not the mat and not the cement flooring !) at the driving range ! The rubber marks left on your clubs(sole) will tell if its too flat or upright.

The rubber marks left on your clubs(sole) will tell if its too flat or upright. Or you can just tape a piece of masking tape on the soles of your iron before you hit off the range mat. Make sure the masking tape covers the iron sole from toe to heel. Or you can use a marker pen to draw straight line on the iron sole from toe to heel. Observe which part of the masking tape or line wears off after a few hits. There's a ratio to determine how far off the lie angle is, but I cannot remember it....

| The best way is to get custom fit ... don't try to guess . get a professional do it . 100% to get right set up on your iron ... it's how you will improve your game by not manipulate the golf club and know your mistake when u hit not the way you want... | |
