| hiya folks, after a long hiatus from the game, I've decided to come back and play again. After I got my PC in 99, I had been playing for a couple of years in M'sia. Then stopped for a long time due to work and family committments. My set then was a simple off-the-shelf-budget set I bought from Far East SC. Now that I'm taking up the game again seriously, I've been told by my coach to get fitted clubs to update my equipment with the latest technology and ensure the sticks are customized to my height and swing styles. He said to budget about 1.5K for a Ping set.
I'm wondering if its more worthwhile to pick up a second-hand set and get it fitted to my height/style. Any advice from the pros here? Brand new or second hand? If second hand, better to get from the pro-shops of online forums?
thanks! | |

| It's more worthwile to pick up second hand set, but make sure you buy forged heads, those made from soft carbon steel. This ensure the heads can be bent to your specs.
Also pick sets with good condition steel shafts, they still have value in market place or for trade-in with club fitter. Avoid ANY stock or OEM shafts at all cost, (esp. graphite). very hard to get buyers.
finally have some idea of your static fitting specs. True Temper and Ping Website has this feature. Especially if you are very tall or short. You might just be lucky that the second hand set fits you OK.
above all else...try before you buy. Join our range sessions, try as many clubs/shafts as you can.
MBGC has demo days. Golfhouse guys come there often, TM guys too. Adams, Mizzy, Titleist, TM, Cally... you can try there. PING Demo days find in free GOLF tabloid.

| If money is no issue....new set lah......the best and best fitted.
If money is no issue but you want to work within a budget, then my suggestion is go for used...and whatever remaining....spent on range or get coaching
If money is not infinite..and there is a budget,....then used set.....we have a couple of chaps selling very decent ones....check them out.
last and not least, welcome to the forum....I am a seasoned beginner. | |

| tyvm for the advice! this settles it then. I will look for a pre-owned set with forged heads and get it custom fitted already have a coach at the range. | |

| If you're buying used set, budget some $ for fitting too. I thought I saw used sets from BFG in Marketplace that offers free fitting and shaft options. Sounds pretty good deal - saves time & money buying used set and end up spending more on extra fitting and shaft change. Just personal view - I'm not related to BFG, nor do I go visit there. I fit my clubs somewhere else. Good luck. | |
