| Hi all,
Got a strange problem with me, i have been hitting Irons pretty ok previously, and woods not so good.
I played and practise quite often and abit tired with the grip, and because of this i realise could not hit my irons properly anymore, i even have problem with PW. Not sure why but i can hit well with Driver and Hybrids, now it's the hybird and wedges/putter that save my game. Every time i take out an iron, 6i to pw (Forget about 5i, now is worst). The shot will either be short or go right, i am really sad about it. I thought it's my new iron set, so i brought my graphite Callaway to range last night and sad to say it gave me the same result, most or all shots go right and some can't even take-off.
I was so frustrated so i stop using irons and take out my hybrid 4 and able to nail the shot straight and launch well.
I am having problem understanding why did this happen, it's really sad.

| Swing problem.
Go see a pro. Its about $60-100 for a real good hr of proper lesson. Dun have to dedicate to a 10 lesson package.
Listening to fellow golfers here will make ur problem worse although they mean well.
Its like when u r sick, do u ask ur friends for a prescription or go to a certified doctor?

| Hey Hoppie, I empathise with you. I've got the exact same problem, top, duff, and even on contact, my irons went nowhere. Driver and woods are the best part of my game, hybrid still can manage, but my irons are the weakest right now, and try as I might for the past year and a half, I could not figure it out. I've had very brief flashes when I hit something resembling decent iron shots, then it disappeared as quickly as it showed itself. 6 iron was the max I dared to hit too. In desperation, I'm finally seeing a coach to correct this, and it could be the solution for you too, since we can't see our own swing to analyze our own mistakes as well as a professional can. It may not be the answer you or most will want to hear, but it is the best solution. After two lessons, it finally clicked for me yesterday on the course and I hit both my driver and irons with a proper release and felt the ball compress better. Even the impact sound of my driver was different. I couldn't believe it at first until I repeated it a few more times, and I'm not going to argue with the results. Still mishit a lot more shots than I hit good ones since the swing is still not burned in, but I think I'm on the right path. I managed to launch a couple of good ones with the 5 iron by the way. I'm not sure if you problems are the same as mine, but it was my swing path that was off plane. And my conscious attempt to hit down for the irons led to an overly steep and outside in swing path back down. At impact, my left wrist and elbow was breaking down and I wasn't posted on my left side. A lot of problems and compensations back to impact. For me at least, once the training clicked in place and I got on the right swing plane as well as shortened my backswing to keep it more compact, all the other problems mentioned above seemed to take care of itself. I'm not saying it will for you too, but getting it on the right plane for me melted away all the other compensations (hence problems) I made in my attempt to hit down on the ball with the irons. So to summarise, save yourself the frustration of self-analysis and patchwork tips and seek the help of a professional whose personality and philosophy best agrees with you. You won't regeret it. I didn't.

Hahaha............Bro u saw me that day leh, what's wrong huh? Sibei tulan i tell u, lucky my short game (Wedges and Putting) and Hybird still passable, if not yesterday handicap Courtesy round at NSRCC Par 3 sure sian half You are just trying to hit the ball harder to get that additional distance. Hence affecting your tempo. I am very sure you won't swing that hard when your coach is around you. Work on striking the ball, the distance will come. Duffadder's right, concentrate on impact first and keep at it. I was frustrated too that I got a bit of result but then stalled. Just keep doing it, and something will click one day like magic. The improvements seem to come in spurts, then flatline or even dip, then suddenly shoot forward again. It's never smooth and gradual.

This is unusually true. I was having the same problems with my irons, hitting it ok at the range but totally messed up on the course and vise versa. Till one day i was at the range with new irons, after @150 balls, i got tired and was just going through the motion just to finish up. I realised i was only doing 3/4 upswing with proper weight transfer, the impact was sweet and distance increased by at least 5-10m. Not forgetting the light grip at address too. Don't give up. Like what Birdman says, the journey is never smooth but once you get that Eureka moment. It'll stay with you. Have fun

BM,
I don't know which doctor you go to but around here, they usually give you carbon or kaolin pills.. Army Doctor! Best in the world. When patients hear the snap of the rubber gloves, they are instantly cured of their diarrhoea. Err... I don't know how to get back on topic from this... but yah... back to the topic.... Patience.

Have fun Wilkang, so that is how you got your 2 birdies on sunday ah? Back on the topic, many moons ago, I too had trouble hitting all golf clubs (other than putter). a visit to a pro for about 3 lessons helps. Important too though, is that you must be prepared to accept that there is a problem with your swing and make the change. It may be just a simple adjustment or a major overhaul. In the long run, it will help you and you will enjoy the game more. All the best to you.
