from an ex-ad man perspective..
the use of sumo wrestler lives a powerful and lingering image in the viewer's mine. however the viewer hardly remembers the special features of the car.
Japanese, Big and Tough is emphasized throughout.
all ad message can be drilled down to..
Product by demonstration, drama, comedy. in this case demo and comedy employed. the selling proposition is there...Japanese, big and tough.
would you buy it? the ad is not meant for singapore but for the US market. in this market where oil price is going up and consumer wants a big car that goes easy on the petrol, its a decent attempt to bring home the message.
from the tonality, hue and quality of image, it probably an ad targeted for the mass market. no Audi or BMW imagery required.

if memory serves me well, moi is still credited as the suit on the commerical. shot in tiong bahru with a very low budget. in our business its an ad created to win awards.

About this guy who is very big sized and managed to get into the ride one time and when he went for the 2nd time, the staff rejected him and say he was too big.
It is in today's New Paper.
