Actually Fourteen Irons is relatively much less expensive compare to Miura, Yamaha or Honma. It is even cheaper than Mizuno selling in RH. You can check the price in Transview (< S$1k average for PW-4 irons).

I don't know which set you were looking at Turbo, but I was Transview at NSRCC two weeks back and the prices were way above $1k, more like $1,700 upwards, after discount . Is it really as cheap as you say? Unless you talking about obsolete model, which I saw at the Isetan sale and it still went for something like $1,300.

The justification for higher prices of Japan made clubs are quality, along with higher cost of production. To make in China to lower your cost and then mark it up to Japanese prices based on the brand name, I agree with S70B, this kind of marketing ploy leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Just like the alignment sticks that are so hot these days. Splash on candy colours and put them in a plastic tube and sell for 30 plus dollars. Just last nite I saw the ordinary ones without the tube container selling for $28 dollars at Bishan range. I just had to shake my head, total rip off.

S70B will know exactly what I mean. They're sold for something like US$1 or US$2 (not sure exactly) in US hardware shops and K Mart. Used for marking driveways when it snows by sticking them in the ground. That's why they are striped in optic orange and white with one end sharp while the other end has a rubber capped tip.

i love this reply!!!

but i do have to agree with S70B, for the price of 14, be it their wedges or their irons, i find absurd that they are pricing themselves so much higher when in terms of performance, i do not find much difference... plus, china made is china made be it assembled by the aforementioned samurai or a chinaman... personally, my clubs are all made in china (i think) and assembled in singapore by DGman...

Its really absurd but i just love the bounce numbers on them. The closer ones are like mizuno, but then again, its always a BS itchy act. But was lucky enough to got a used set at the den with the help of Boss. Loving the wedges and the shocking thing is it does not have more grooves than a Cally C.C wedge and it doesn't this additional spin mills on the face of a tity or the laser lines on the clevelands...but it still spin as well..... when do you need to change shaft???

scientifically.....if the shafts are the same weight, the distance is going to be the same. only diffference is timing of impact.

however science cannot determine the importance of feel as it is what goes into the golfers mental state. if you feel that the shaft is too soft (vibrates) at the top of the swing, it will impair you from making a committed strike on the downswing.

but if there is doubt in your mind, its time to take out some notes from your fat wallet Charles.

DGman

because i am al cheapo, good result i praise club, bad result i blame myself. that way i save all the money on golf clubs. however after trying Shamusan i-125 steelfiber S flex, i am now very tempted.

wah. this really clears up my doubts leh.

Yesterday i tried my friend's steel shaft on hybrid.

I was surprised that I hit his stiff shaft very well.

DG Man, you got NS Pro steel shaft for hybrids boh? Second hand one. Looking to shaft my hybrids 19 deg, 22 deg, and 25 deg but want to try one first. If like then shaft the other two.

Thinking of starting off with the 25 deg first.

BS itchy, there are several options.

including the storeroom treatment....Ah Tan where are you????

tried a full game recently with the KBS tour but i still prefer the more stable feel and results on my current shafts.

if you have a game i can loan you my set to f around.

True that. Its something I can always work towards, but having similar equipment puts me one step closer.

Anyway i am just saying, i doubt it will materialize as I am playing well with the current setup of AP2s on the Graphite Design GAT95 shafts.

Hope can find second hand shafts.

done Gray...

i want to share 3 cases which will give golfers a better idea about "custom fitting".

Case#1

a golfer went to a prominent fitting store in sg and wanted to customise a set of mizuno irons. he started hitting his 6 iron and recorded 93 mph. the fitter/salesman then told him...sorry sir, something's wrong with our system. 6 iron don't go above 90 mph. he then got fitted with a set of S300 which he found to be too soft. at that speed he should be fitted with at least the X100 or project X 6.5 depending on his AoA, then confirmed an throughout chat about divots on the course.

case #2

a golfer who is about 6 foot 2, american went into a store selling fourteen. the salesman told him the PX 5.0 was the best for him and went on to tell him how good the irons were, blah, blah blah. he bought it and had the worse golfing experience in his life. found us through a friend and got fitted first on his driver. a Project X 7.0 wood shaft and he was convinced. we analyse him and found his 6 iron swing speed in the 90 range. got him refitted with his fourteen and this time with the PX 6.5 flighted, half inch longer and all the right lie. he is a very happy camper. in fact all his shafts from driver, woods, hybrids and even wedges are now refitted. if you see a big american with all the BFG headcovers, thats our man.

case #3

got a call from a teaching pro who has a pro trackman at his premise. "what do you do when you have a golfer who's 6 iron clubhead speed is 108 mph. answer is " we can start him with a project X 7.0". brought in test shafts in 6 and 7 iron but hell if the 7.0 don't work, i may have to pour 20g of hot melt into the shafts just to change the weight and feel at impact.

now if big hitters like them go into the stores and the salesman wants to make sure he gets his commission, the result and the implication it has on custom fitting can be really bad.

think about that!

DGman

Birdman,

It is TC-550 Forged irons (PW-4 Irons) selling at around $950-990 @ Transview. I would suggest you check the price at OCC PRO shop which is operated by Transview. I got the quote from that shop late last year. I did not wanna buy the irons because they are NSPRO stock shaft.

The Fourteen premium wedge was selling at $175 during the Isetan sales. This is about the price of Titleist Vokey Design spin milled wedge.

I think the china forging resulted in the inconsistency in head weights. Luckily they invented lead tape.

Thanks for the info, it's a good deal if still can get that price, cos I was sorely tempted just based on the looks of the irons alone. My only issue is the 44 deg loft of the pitching wedege. Only the TC-510 comes with and additional 48 deg approach wedge.

Tried my crossfire shaft twice. Last Sat at NSRCC executive and yesterday at Keppel. Also once at the driving range.

I must say that the feeling of steel on hybrid is amazing. gives me the confidence to hit straight and use my hybrid more often. I managed to get 1 on for hole 3 in the nsrcc exec and hole 4 at keppel. Bros, what are u waiting for? Go to BFG to get one for your hybrids......BUT go next week. This week all crossfire no stock at BFG. (Let me go and get mine first ... hahaha)

Now my question to DG man is. Can 3 wood also use crossfire? Or do you have another recommendation for me?

crossfire was last produced more than 4 years ago.

about 2 years back we got the last stock of over 200 shafts from the US and Japan.

whatever is remaining are the last of the last.

i have one more for you and we are pretty much done Gray.

yes it can go into a 3 wood and we have the .335 tip version, not sure how many left. you got to check with Frostee.
