9 iron and Pw length

Hi all,

Need some advise here. Just discovered that my 9 iron overall length is the same as my Pw after fitted by a fitter. This is a surprise for me as I tot from 3 iron right down to Pw, the overall length will shorten progressively.  In fact been playing w the set for almost 5 months now and yes... I didn't even notice that till now. 

Is this a fitting technique that I am unaware of?   Didn't really notice the diff in distance by the both irons, though my Pw average 100m and 9 iron supposed to be 110m

Thought I can get some advice from fellow golfers here in the forum. Thanks for any enlightenment .

I asked the same few years ago. The answer I found from various source is "this is normal". The difference in length could be .25 inch to .5 inch between 9i and pw. The main difference is loft.pw around 45-46 degrees.

Interesting, I will go check my lofts and lengths of my 9 and PW

1/2" difference in length would not translate much difference in distance ... It is the loft that produces the difference in distance between each club ... That's why there are golfers (both amateurs & pros) who choke down a couple of inches still produce good distance ...

Generally, there should be about 1/2" difference in club length for each step of the clubs ...

Hi. Loft aside, Distance depends on quality of strike. If your club distances cluster together. it is likely you may not be striking well on the center of the club face.

It also preference.
Some like to play all their wedges the same length.
Some use the same length from 9-LW.
The key issue is that whether you are getting the correct gaping between clubs.
If not, can add/minus length, add/minus loft.
