TM covers - don't last too well Empty
PostSubject: TM covers - don't last too well   TM covers - don't last too well I_icon_minitimeTue Jan 18, 2011 12:45 pm

Folks,

Just want to share our experience of the TM covers for my clubs.

My wife's burner driver and woods have the 'B' logo (and the 'flame' logo) detached from the covers

her spider putter cover is also dis-integrating (where to buy square-shaped putter cover for replacement?? scratch )

I bought a TM Japan driver cover while in Japan and over time, the faux leather started peeling off bits by bits... that hurts

in the last TM / adidas sale in Expo, I bought a couple of driver and wood covers. The driver cover's faux leather has some bubbles appearing and there appears to be a cut

Some may question, how I use the covers... i dare say, I used it but not abused it. everytime I hit my wood / driver, I will clean the club and put the cover back. Not throw it around in the back of the golf cart.

Don't get me wrong, TM make some good clubs, esp their metal woods... but I wish their covers last longer

Just for comparison, my old R7 3wood cover, the colour merely faded, but still in good condition becaused everything is stiched on instead of pasted on. You folks have similar experience or is it only me? Rolling Eyes

nope, not just you. My old burner 07 and 08 logo also detached itself from the cover.

my rescue 09 and r9 driver covers are using stitching and has no faux leather material so im hoping theyll last.

The B coming off is known problem.. still not so bad.. at least can glue back or just forget about it.

the other more irritating problem is flaking.. those rubbery surface tends to peel and flake quite badly just after bringing out for a while.

Nike ones has the same problem. (see the old Sumo driver cover)

Just buy BFG head covers to solve all this problem. Smile

Anything with faux leather, molded rubber or plastic bits will deteriorate over time.

Also, expect headcovers bought at a sale to deteriorate faster, just like athletic shoes, as they have been stored for a long time already.

Keeping your golf bag baking in the boot of your car also accelerates the rate of break down.

Best to stick to stitched fabric if you want lasting headcovers.

If you think of stock headcovers as where manufacturers can cut costs, then you won't expect too much out of them and won't be as disappointed when they fall apart.

And don't do a silly thing like I did long long ago, by buying another stock headcover from the same brand and have the whole cycle repeat itself all over again. That 30 plus dollars can get a much better quality headcover elsewhere, like from BFG for example, where headcovers are not an afterthought, but researched and refined as a proper product on its own.

My favorite headcovers is BFG's Graman headcovers with wordings like Deadcenter, they last forever. Made in very good quality.

Not forever la.... kwa zhang.. but close.

Easy to take off and put back on yet still secure that they won't fall off the club. I got Dead Center and Spot On, forgot what it says on the driver cover. I like the phrases, positive affirmation when I take off the head covers.

Mine breaking down oredi. Letters starting to crack and peeling is starting soon. But then again, I've had them for a few years oredi.

Luckily got back up set. Very Happy

Why do you have a few?

Anyway, if you've never had problems with your other TM covers then you may be lucky with the one for your R9 Smile I also think the problem is more prevalent in those covers which have the logo etc stuck on the cover (with glue) rather than those which are embossed.

I bought 2 Nike Sumo 2 Driver last year, one from Golf Zone US Spec S,
the other from Isetan Asian Spec SR, the US Spec Nike Head cover
show no sign of wear and tear, Looks brand new till today.

Whereas the Asian Spec Nike Head cover from Isetan
show extreme aging, look like 10 years old, velvet eroded, became patchy,
show extreme sign of wear and tear, Asian spec Nike Head cover definitely
from China! Poor quality !

Finally, a thread on this, and it's already 2 pages!

It's my pet peeve about TM. The flame falls off. The 'B' (Burner) falls off.

Even when kept indoors, the cover seem to disintegrate/fade/get musty more than covers of other brands like Ping.

In comparison, the magnetic flap covers from Titleist and Adams for their hybrids look so much better and last much better too.

Made in China is not the determining factor. Just about everything is made is China nowadays. Apple ipad, iphone, macbooks are all made in China, but just look at the quality.

Faux leather is not the issue either. I just checked, my Titleist D2 driver magnetic cover is both made in China and made of faux leather. But it looks lovely and pristine compared to TM's covers where the logos and emblems start to fall off in the car on the way back from the shop!

Quality products cost more to manufacture, regardless where they are made. No doubt cheaper covers are better for TM's bottom line, but not so good for the customers.

Since I stopped using TM clubs, it bothers me less, but MAN, I used to get annoyed with this.
