| it depends on the occasion and the structure of the companies.
players who do not have a putter contract can choose what they like to use. they may pay or get it on loan terms meaning they do not have to pay for it but have to return if they do not want it. but they are not allowed to sell it.
then there are companies who give a bonus for players to use their products. for top players, they may be paid a weekly or annual sum for using the products. then there is an incentive to entice players to put it in play. for example, making the cut, X amount, top 50 finish XX amount, top 10 finish XXX amount...winner XXXXX amount. thats why companies go under because sometimes win do not amount to sales. and when they stop paying players, the players switch putters.
some company also fly private jets round the world to bring players to their fitting studio in the US, wine and dine them every few months or annually and fit them with a personal putter. that way, the player is beholden to use the product.
we have a loan contract for ZEN players but no incentive bonus.

Adam Scott is most likely to be using an Odessey this week...it was with him the whole time on the putting green. | |
