Same as Benz E class. Unless you take off the side netting at the right rear wheel panel of the boot, you can't even lay it horizontally. I took off mine and now can max put in 3 golf bags. That is 2 cart and 1 stand bag. The 4th bag, the 4th golfer carry it between his knees in the rear seat ha ha.

Apologies, if this is off topic...

Been considering recently to buy a new car, Volkswagen Golf...but the most important question, how many golf sets can be squeezed into the boot?

I had heard that the width is too little for putting a "driver" horizontally (i mean the golf driver, sorry the pun!)

Anybody driving a Volkswagen Golf for comments?

Ringrain, the Golf can fit fit 4 bags, but only standbags and drivers must be out. I actually bumped into a friend at Palm Villa and somehow he managed to squeeze in 4, but must also remove the fabric flap. I don't advise trying to sueeze in 4 though, looked really tight.

Your other option if you are dead set on the Golf's performance, is to go for the Jetta 1.4 Sport TSI. The boot is not exceptionally wide, it fits at least one cart or tour bag horizontally with the side panel removed, but is deep enough to fit comfortably 3 diagonally, with 4 stand bags a bit of a squeeze. if it's the 2 litre Golf's performance you are looking for, then you have to order the Jetta GLI, which is not readily stocked here now.

All in all, continental cars have smaller boots than Jap cars now, with the wheel wells all boarded up for a cleaner streamlined shape to the boots I suppose. The external design curves at the rear aren't much help too, unlike the square rears of old. I can only surmise that the Japs on the other hand are golf crazy, and that accounts for their boots being able to fit in golf bags horizontally. Of the conti cars, Mercs still have the biggest boots for golf bags, but I'm guessing that's not what you're looking at. Very Happy

If you are looking for space. Get a mpv. Will never run out of space be it jap or conti. Just that do not expect sedan quality of handling and sportiness.

Yes, Birdman, I was considering also the Jetta Sports...I find that the boot is quite big and should have no problem squeezing in 4 golf bags.

Not really into Jap or Korean cars at the moment, although I agree that their boot spaces are probably designed with putting golf bags as one of the considerations. They are huge, even a Hyundai Avante has no problem with 4 bags (3 carts & 1 stands).

Currently, my drive is giving me some headaches, 5 years old, guess it's high time to change...

Me driving Nissan Sunny...wife driving Picanto.

My Nissan was in workshop for repairs recently and drove my wife's Picanto for range and game.

Want to talk about small...max 2 golfers and 2 bags on back seats, absolutely nothing more!

Need a more reliable and new car and leave the Picanto to my wife.

If you are considering, better get it before the new model is out next year, it's darn ugly. Looks like a continental Honda City. Worse than the current design. The upside is the boot may be even bigger since it's looking Jap. Very Happy

Thought your resolve is stronger than that. Anyway, I like real candy, not plastic ones. ROFL

Anyway, Jetta is the golf with a boot. The others are great cars but won't handle as well as the Golf or Jetta in the corners, too big and soft, they are closer towards the luxury side of things already. The Jetta is still lean and mean, already with the backside, lose out to the Golf in handling, but not by much. It's a very good sports saloon with the best compromise of performance, handling, and pracitcality, at a reasonable price for a conti car.

I was just browsing around since it was long time since I was genuinely interested in getting a new car...was shocked by some of the prices of Japanese cars, like Camry and Accord.

That's why thinking of getting a Passat CC 1.8 at about S$147k but wife is keen to keep her Picanto and I see no point buying a luxury car just to ferry my golf clubs and kakis. Anyway, I don't like to drive to work due to possibility of drinks after work.

Budget-wise, maybe my threshold would be max S$110k (Jetta level), and hoping to secure a good discount with rest of the cash going to a new golf stand bag, some hybrids, etc...

True but can't seem anyone selling Jetta 1.4 TSI Sports since it was launched mid last year. Been checking the sgcarmart also.

Have, just have to be patient and keep looking. I just missed out on a white one with very low mileage owned by a lady. Sold for $90k, registered May this year.

No leh, my friend's E series (one generation before the current latest) can fit in both our stand bags. One a bit diagonal, the other definitely horizontal. scratch

Yup I am driving that one now. He must have removed the side netting on the right hand side just like me. Can put 2 cart bags and 1 standbag on top of the 2. Thats what I have been doing all this time. Of course if there is nothing in the boot at all, can put in head in first in the direction of the car, I think can squeeze in 4 bags though I have not tried that before. I went to view the latest series. Damm, the boot really can't even put a single cart bag horizontally. The side of the boot boarded up lor. Really small boot space though the car look huge like the old S series which is very squarish.

Of course remove the side netting la. It's nothing but irritating for golfers.

Seems like a Euro trend to board up all the useful space in the wheel well area. Doesn't make any sense since it's usually hollow anyway (I knocked on it).

Where u going to store your "one-wheeler caravan"? I don't know, but I think if you have the space at home to park/store it, you'd probably have enuff moolah to buy a car with large trunk space for weekend golf or when you're not driving your ferrari around town. albino
