| I am quite hopeless in hitting long irons, especially 4 and 3 irons. My woods play is OK so I'm thinking of replacing 3-4 irons (or even 5) with hybrids.
On good hits, my distances are as estimates;
3I - ~140m 4I - 130m-140m 5I - 130m?
5W - 150m-160m 3W - 170m-180m
So I'm planning to replace 3-4I with hybrid of maybe 20 degrees loft.
Or should I buy a lower loft and cover up 5W as well?

| I have the same exact problem..just hopeless at hitting long irons
Can only hit a decent shot with 6i onwards..therefore I have 3 hybrids in the bag..19,22,25degrees to replace 3,4,5i..

| yes,go ahead and replace your long irons with hybrids. make use of whatever advantage modern equipment gives. hybrids are more forgiving and much easier to hit, even in the rough or in the sand trap or as a chipper around the greens. me long time gave up my 3,4 and 5 irons and replace with a 22 deg(4 iron) and 25 deg(5 iron) hybrid. | |

| yes..totally agree
i hardly use #3 and #4 iron i have #3 hybrid and #4 hybrid to replace these iron.
I keep a #5 iron with me for something like punch , low flight, more roll so that i can save the ball from rough and have the ball on fairway, beside that, i hardly use #5 iron.
In general, #3, #4 hybrid with #6 onward irons basically cover most of the distance gap.
#3 FW is a substitute for my driver, just in case my driver sucks on that day....

| I have 3I and 4I in my bag but rarely used on the course, more like for range practice...
I have 3W and 5W which i usually used for 2nd shots...
Basically, I am kinda of handicapped for distance ~140-150m, so always playing safe shorter shots...
Sadly, I lent one of my 22 degrees hybrid out and seems little chance of getting back. Therefore, planning my hybrids purchase of 17 and 23 degrees to cover the distance gap

| Bro, you are not alone. I cannot hit 3/4 irons to save my life if need be! So replace them with hybrids to get the distances that I thought the irons should achieve. Then again, whether irons or hybrids, it all boils down to personal preference, methinks. Anyway, welcome! | |

| Hi there,
IMO, hybrids are really useful esp. for those with difficulties in playin long irons. Its so much easier to hit/launch. Even Y.E. Yang uses 3 hybrids (to replace 5i, 4i, and 3i) - so there's really no shame in replacing irons with hybrids. Only factor would probably be cost tho.. heh
For me, I rely a lot on my 4hybrid for difficult shots. 170m-180m, low/straight punches (anythg from 130m down is possible - just let it fly low n roll), long bunker shots (irons may chunk in sand), thick rough.. etc. Only one hybrid but many uses possible so I'm sure it'll be so helpful to your game.
just my 2cts.. | |

6I - 130-135 7I - 120-125 My mid iron distances are very close but still capable of 5-10m more with more speed and smash. Usually, i use 6I for long par 3 so distance can be up to 135-140m. I rather use 6I with speed and impact ball then use 5I and changko!

| I carry 1 driver and 3 hybrids (1i, 3i & 5i), no FW. My irons start from 6 - P. The hybrids give me a good distance gaps and are easier to hit than FW and long irons. It works for me. You can try out the hybrids during SSN from our forumers. I thought you should note to look at clubs provide appropriate distance gaps between clubs. | |

maybe you can try to choke down with you 5i to the length of 6i and practise....if you still can hit as good as your 6i, try hitting without choking down... sometimes it can be mental...
