Yeah.. its a good practice to partition yr hard disk.

For me, almost same as x-man, my hdd is into OS + Page, Programs and Data.
Any issues, you can still plug out yr HDD and access yr Data without worry.

Titu, what version of Windows are you using?

Do you mean Quick Launch as in the toolbar on the taskbar?

Or are you referring to the desktop shortcuts?

My OS i think is called Microsoft Windows Media edition. Complimentary from Starhub 2 years ago when I re-contract with them.
As there is not much left to save, I did not do it. Moreover, I was not given a recovery disk.

Then scroll through to see if what you r missing is there or not. IF YES, then RIGHT CLICK and select Restore

- Do you have a "different" clarifty of your desktop? Could it be in safe mode?
- Who was the last person using the PC?
- What sites did you surfed
- What was the last access to any file? Was it purely website or ....
- What antivirus did you use?

Antivirus scanner on yr PC may not always detect EVERYTHING.... maybe you can google and find for an online antivirus to do a scan on yr PC (All drives)

Bro Jazz, I have tried looking into the recycle bin and found nothing of use. Confirmed all were what I deleted.
My 12 yr daughter was the last one to use it and she don't visit any *po....* site. That i am very sure of. I know she went to some site where she plays around with fashion, just what little girls like. Been doing that for momnths and nothing when wrong there. She swore she did not download anything else. I am using Rising anti virus. Iknow its not comprehensive but it helped me thru the years. Ya I know, new virus come on stream frequently but I did update the Rising very frequently. Hopefully my friend can find out whats the problem and i will have it mention here. Thanks very much for your help bro.

titu, anti-virus can only do so much... nowadays, u need to have anti adware as well...go to http://www.lavasoft.com/ and download the free version... might not be a virus cosing the havoc but an adware jaming the launching of your programs...

Download AVG, Spybot and WinPatrol from a safe source on the web. Disconnect from internet and right AFTER you install your OS, install these 3 programs....

These programs will protect your PC, and if any spyware or software wants to install or change your registry, they will let you know and ask you if you agree to the install.

My friend could not make it today. So I think I will carry my cpu to Sim Lim tomorrow and have it check. Everyone there said virus.....sigh

Yah... over there, they got bad reputation of sleezing people. Now got a quote of $40 to solve the problem. Am afraid once you let them taer the cpu apart, they will charge you for this and that for other thing which they said must be done.

Just tell them straight that you not into upgrading... just want to install OS and that's it. Btw you have your own CD to install OS?

You can install the Windows XP Home Edition or if you want more stuff the Professional Edition... now it's at SP3 aka Service Pack 3.

If they ask you to get Windows 7, you might need to get new RAM, better CPU etc...
