HELP !!! Need IT expert here !!!

Guys/gals, overnight something happened to my pc. When I opened it this morning, on my desk top, 80 % of my quick launches were wiped out ! It disappeared from my desktop leaving empty spaces in its place. What happened? Can any expert let me know? All my Virus programs gone with it. I re-downloaded another virus program and ran it. No virus detected at all. What can have happened??? I still can't find out what happened. I went to Add and Remove Programs page and discovered that all the programms are still there. Just that I don't know how to get it back onto my desktop again. One very important thing to note here. I am a TOTALLY IT IDIOT/ILLITERATE

Dun just partition ur drive. Use a separate drive. Like that u can always keep the "Edison" HDD by ur side at all times

someone accidentally deleted ur quick launch? if all programs still there, just relink them back to desktop lor.

u go to cdrive>programs> u can see all ur documents folder of each application.

eg. if u got a anti virus software. u go to tt antivirus folder and open.

pray inside not empty btw....
otherwise, ur main link is from there. =)

another reason:

u go desktop, right click.... choose view.... den tick 'show all desktop icon'

Step 2 . Scroll over the Tool Bars and click the Quick Launch

I found it so frustrating too whenever something weird happened to my pc without me having done anything different.

I switched to Mac and have never looked back. Now everything works all the time.

Ya considering. But in the meantime.....sigh.

tutu try this:

same as wad they say... right click... but u click on the desktop screen.

then u see 'view'. select that.
then u tick 'show desktop icons.'

I tried that one myself, nothing change on the desktop. Think all really got wipeout. All my Startup page items all showed *The application failed to initialized properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.*

Think total loss liao

I tried System Restore also but all came back unable...sigh..give up liao

Oh you mean my pc caught virus??? But I ran a virus scan and there was nothing detected leh.

but quick launch is just a short cut leh.... can you go to the RECYCLE BIN on yr desktop, DOUBLE-CLICK see what is inside it? (in case someone or you deleted it by mistake)

Then scroll through to see if what you r missing is there or not. IF YES, then RIGHT CLICK and select Restore

Alternatively, I am unsure if :
- Do you have a "different" clarifty of your desktop? Could it be in safe mode?
- Who was the last person using the PC?
- What sites did you surfed
- What was the last access to any file? Was it purely website or ....
- What antivirus did you use?

Antivirus scanner on yr PC may not always detect EVERYTHING.... maybe you can google and find for an online antivirus to do a scan on yr PC (All drives)

did u experience any blue screen of death or system hang lately? signs of hardrisk up lorry...

if there was any force shutdown lately, could be just profile corrupted.

are you able to save all your data to external drive? If yes, just do that and than reformat your hard disk and install the OS.

When you partition your hard disk, remember to make 3 partitions, 1 for OS, 1 for data and 1 for page file...

What OS you using and how much RAM used? How big is your hard disk?

Even CD Rome drive also not recognise at all. Put in a disk and it is as if i did not do anything. Wonder if it was my hard disk crash... Guys tks but I am at wits end. I am pc illiterate so most of the things you guys mentioned sound German to me. I got a guy coming to my place tomorrow. Lets hope he can figure out whats wrong with it. Surrender liao. Blue screen has nothing to do with harddisk.

IT is caused by the OS instability and usually due to DLLs or libraries that are corrupted or missing.
