PostSubject: What to do - for hole-in-one ?   What to do - for hole-in-one ? I_icon_minitimeSun Jul 18, 2010 11:46 pm

As I witness an almost hole-in-one by one of my flightmates. I wonder , what to do if hole-in-one ?

Someone told me that you need to call the marshall, do not pick up the ball from the hole, and have at least 2 witness standby and wait for marshall.

Is this true?
How about the flight behind...?
Let them play thru while you wait for marshall ?

What is the proper way ?
Advise appreciated.
Thanks

This is what we did when I witness a hole in one for one of my flightmates at Keppel Hole 16 some time back...

1) Must play finish the 18 holes for the HIO to count, make sure you are not playing alone lah...
2) No need to call marshall lah, you can still pick up the ball from the hole and take picture lah with your flight mates and do all the hehe haha dancing/poses and continue with the game
3) After the game, with your flight mates, sign off scorecard and see Golfing Dept to inform them of HIO, the club will verify with flight mates on the hole and distance, once confirmed, they issue you a HIO certificate, if you are the member of club, your in-house golf insurance will cover free makan and beer!!
4) In our case, the HIO winner was not a Keppel member, he was a RCC member, so Keppel Golfing Mgr also gave him a official letter to inform RCC that he scored a HIO @ Keppel and for him to claim his own RCC golf insurance...

What if it rained heavily after the HIO and course closed? Did not complete 18H no count?

If i am not wrong, yes, you need to finish 18 hole in 1 sitting for HIO to count... its like if you play 9 holes and kena HIO, sorry dude, no count officially (unofficially, still congrats lah)... must be 1 full golf game...

with regards to rain and course closed, different clubs may have different policy, they may give you a rain check to continue, but it depends which stage of the game you are in... if you yet to complete 9 holes, then may have rain cheque, once you past 10th hole, most clubs dont give rain check alr...

HIO is Lady Luck gift to every golfer, if its meant to be, it will be....Chinese saying "Shi Ni De, Hui Shi Ni De"

no club membership as in country club, tats is still ok as long as you have HCP maintain by some organization.

But if no HCP, then difficult lor. But the very least, I think we here as in GR will still recognize it ( I think)

I think the rule that says must play 18 holes is silly.

Anyone knows the reason behind this rule?

I usually play 9 holes in the evenings only. Does that mean that my hole in one is not hole in one just because my work and family life only allows me to play 9 holes in the evenings?

I kind of felt otherwise lor....having the 18hole rule is fair lah. Just like the magic 59 score, there are many who had scored lower than 59 ..but not recognize because the event is not officially recognized mah

But either way, for me, whether 9 or 18 or even whatever, trying to ON itself is a big Ask liao

According to USGA:
Q. What constitutes the validity of a hole in one?

A. The Rules of Golf do not address the issue of the validity of a hole-in-one. It is up to the Committee to determine whether a hole-in-one is valid. The USGA recommends that a hole-in-one be considered valid:
If made during a round of at least nine holes, except that a hole-in-one made during a match should be acceptable even if the match ends before the stipulated round is completed.
If the player is playing one ball; a hole-in-one made in a practice round in which the player is playing two or more balls should not be acceptable.
If attested by someone acceptable to the Committee.
If made at a hole with a temporary tee and/or putting green in use, even if the Committee did not specifically define the teeing ground with tee-markers; the length of the hole at the time should be stated on any certificate.
If made in a "scramble" competition, which is played as follows: A side comprises four players. Each member of a side plays from the teeing ground, the best drive is selected, each member plays a second shot from where the best drive is located, and so on.

If you have a lot of Chinese or Japanese friends, you try not to tell anyone or you'll out a lot of money organizing a round of golf (including a nice lunch/dinner and gifts) for your friends. Last time someone got a hole in one in my club in Shanghai, I heard he was out around RMB 50k.

KK, very simple for you.

You can earn RMB50k in your lifetime but HIOs can't be earned even if you try.

For HIO to be recognized, there must be a minimum of 3 balls in the flight if I am not wrong. If a HIO prize is available, I think one must finish the entire 18 holes. In the event of increment weather and the course is closed, the golfer who got the HIO must go back and finish the game or so I was told.

I have heard that the club will check for valid handicap without which the insurance company will not pay. Having said that, no one actually requested to see my handicap card and to-date, I have not got any certificate from RCC. All I did is fill in the HIO form with my witnesses' signature. There was a marshall though at the HIO hole and I was almost crushed to death when a fat boy jumped on me in whcih I fell flat on the tee box and another gorilla stacked onto the fat boy. Evil or Very Mad

This is what I did with my HIO in May:

1. Tell my buddies not to shout so loud otherwise I need to go back clubhouse and ring the bell and spend my $500 to buy drinks for everuone around using up my $500 golf insurance

2. Proceed to green after everyone has teed offl when all is on (the green), shifted the flag so everyone can hear the ball fall to bottom of the cup (the ball is then holed out, no more in play). The ball was trapped between side of cup and flag.

3. Go back clubhouse, one flightmate who witnessed the HIO to sign the SAFRA HIO form, submit scorecard.

4. SAFRA prepares letter/certificate of HIO, use that to claim $500 from insurance, together with the receipts you spent on food/beverage with your friends and family

5. SAFRA calls you to give you a small trophy and put your name on the HIO board

6. that day, the course supervisor was nearby so he took a photo, and I kept the HIO ball.

7. There is no rule for completing all 18 holes, otherwise, if rain wash out the rest of the game cannot claim HIO meh? My flightmates asked the course supervisor and he said in future no need to call him or other marshals lah!

8. Interesting stat: Every month at SAFRA 5 to 8 golfers get HIO, so alot of people are lucky and happy there

hypothetical question:

you tee off first and the ball landed on the green and stopped near the pin; your flight mate then tee off, and his ball knock your ball into the hole. does that count as hole-in-one?

I afraid not. You replace your ball to it original position and your friend need to play his ball as it lied.

It is just like when another player knock your ball on the green from outside the green. (note : that if your friend knock your ball when it hit in the green than is a penlrty for him for knocking your ball .. In other words, be sure all balls were marked before taking any putting when on the green )

However, if your friend tee his ball and knock your ball on the green and his ball went into the hole .. It is "hole in one for him " ( I am sure you know that ). Sorry for being "long winded"
Very Happy
