| ONE BALL. GLOBAL TRUST. Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson highlights four-win week for Titleist.
The unmatched golf ball performance story of Titleist continues across the worldwide professional tours, highlighted by Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson’s tournament record 21-under par performance at Colonial. Fellow Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald went wire-to-wire to win the European Tour's Madrid Masters. And Tom Lehman trusting the Pro V1 captured his first Champions Tour major in a sudden death playoff at the Senior PGA Championship. 23-year-old Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim’s breakthrough performance with the Pro V1x earned him his first Japan Golf Tour title at the Diamond Cup. Consistent performance from tee-to-green. It’s why one ball is trusted more around the world.
TITLEIST ON TOUR HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 30, 2010
PGA TOUR: Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson staged an impressive weekend charge, shooting his second straight round of 6-under 64 on Sunday to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial by two strokes. After opening up his round with a pair of birdies, the 2007 Masters champion birdied five of his final nine holes, despite two weather delays, and posted a new tournament record of 21-under 259.
Ben Crane (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909H hybrid, New AP2 irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) posted his fifth top-10 finish of the season, shooting 17-under 263 to tie Jeff Overton (Pro V1x, Vokey Spin Milled sand wedge), who was coming off a co-runner-up finish at last week's HP Byron Nelson Championship, for third place. Titleist Brand Ambassador Bryce Molder (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F2 fairway metal, New CB irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2.7 Studio Select putter) also posted his fifth top-ten finish of the 2010 PGA TOUR season. The 54-hole co-leader shot an even-par final round 70 to tie Scott Verplank (Pro V1, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) for fifth place.
The win marks the seventh career championship for the 34-year-old Johnson on the PGA Tour. He led the field in birdies for the week with 24 as well as Greens in Regulation (84.7%). Johnson also hit 69.6% of the fairways at Colonial, tying for 10th in that category and ranked 11th in Putts per Green in Regulation (1.656).
What’s in Zach Johnson’s Bag?: Titleist Pro V1x, 909D2 driver (8.5), 909F2 fairway metals (13.5, 18.5), 909H hybrid (21.0), New AP1 4-iron, New AP2 irons (5-9), Vokey Design Spin Milled pitching (48), sand (54) and lob (60) wedges.
Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial with 76 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 15. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 36; SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 99; and PUTTERS with 44.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Luke Donald (Pro V1x), who turned in a runner-up finish at last week’s BMW Championship, improved his showing by a place this week, hoisting the trophy at the Madrid Masters. Donald finished one shot clear of European Tour rookie Rhys Davies (Pro V1) to claim his first European Tour title in six years, and his first official victory since the 2006 Honda Classic. Donald and Davies were tied for much of the tournament, but with an eagle on 16 to Davies’ birdie, Donald took the lead for good. The victory will propel Luke Donald back into the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since July, 2007. Rhys Davies, 2003 British Boys Amateur Champion, is the current front runner for European Tour Rookie of the Year. He won his first title at the Trophee Hassan in Morocco two months ago, one of his five top-ten finishes in 14 starts. The young Welshman is currently ninth in the Race to Dubai standings, the only rookie among the top 15.
Titleist was the GOLF BALL of choice at the Madrid Masters with 82 players, more than all other golf balls combined.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: With his fellow competitors in trouble off the tee, Tom Lehman (Pro V1, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron GSS putter) split the final fairway on Sunday, setting up a par on the first playoff hole that would earn him his first senior major title at the Senior PGA Championship at Colorado Golf Club. David Frost (Pro V1x, Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges, Scotty Cameron putter) was one of two players who joined the playoff after Lehman shot his third straight 1-under 71 to finish at 7-under 281. Mark O'Meara (Pro V1, 909D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, 909H hybrid, New AP2 irons, Vokey Spin Milled TVD wedges, Scotty Cameron 303 GSS putter) finished at 5-under 283 to take fourth place.
Though he got off to a slow start in the final round, Lehman played his last 13 holes bogey-free at 3-under. He was the only player in the field to shoot four rounds under par at the Colorado Golf Club, co-designed by Ben Crenshaw. Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at the Senior PGA Championship with 108 players, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 14. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 50 and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 107.
JAPAN TOUR: Titleist Brand Ambassador Kyung-Tae Kim (Pro V1x, 909 D3 driver, 909 H hybrid, ZB/ZM irons, Vokey Spin Milled wedges) captured his first career Japan Golf Tour title with a two shot victory at the Diamond Cup Golf 2010. The 23-year-old Kim had posted five second place finishes over the last two seasons on the Japan Golf Tour before his breakout performance. The South Korean started the day with a six-shot lead and carded a final round one-under-par 71 for a 16-under 272 winning total .
With 57 players trusting their games to the #1 Ball in Golf at the Diamond Cup, Titleist continues its endurance as the most played GOLF BALL in every event of the 2010 Japan Golf Tour season. Titleist was also first in the HYBRID (30) and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES (87) categories. | |
