| Hm...just wondering if the tournament director of chief Marshall would be able to give an exception ruling as her mitigating reason was to balance herself to prevent fall into water. | |

| Actually, its not really that a big deal if you look at what she did. To me, i think she should be given the benefit of the doubt. It had no consequence to where the ball was. I just think the marshall is damn anal. | |

| Let's be honest here. It's a rule that, in this case, had zero effect on Wie's shot. (Grounding your club can help you test the ground to determine how hard you need to swing, or get a better shot if you break up the sand around your ball, which is why it's a violation.) But stupid or not, it's a rule. Wie and all golfers has to know it, has to respect it, and has to understand that when she's violated it, that's the end of the story and the video clip shows clearly she has grounded the club more out of frastration then to give her 'support' as claimed ... accept it and move on babe .... | |

| i doubt so... even if she fell backward and accidentally show more skin in soggy wetty look... rules mean rules, she grounds it before the fall | |

| Just curious, what happen if the ball is 2inch inside of the red line? Is there penalty if the ball is not in the hazard? | |

| totally agree with suszzi..rule is rule, be it Michelle Wie or Tiger Wood, you ground it, you have to take the penalty, there is no doubt about it.
I guess, being a professional, have to behave prefessionally and take the penalty with integrity.
Lesson learn and just make sure dnt repeat it again.
Still, I still lup michelle wie...keke

| if only her pants were shorter, the marshal would not be paying attention to the club..... maybe he was pissed that she 'balanced' herself and did not fall into the water | |

| Its rule 13-2.
13-2. Improving Lie, Area of Intended Stance or Swing, or Line of Play A player must not improve or allow to be improved:
• the position or lie of his ball, • the area of his intended stance or swing, • his line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or • the area in which he is to drop or place a ball,
by any of the following actions:
•pressing a club on the ground, • moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed (including immovable obstructions and objects defining out of bounds), • creating or eliminating irregularities of surface, • removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, replaced divots or other cut turf placed in position, or • removing dew, frost or water.
However, the player incurs no penalty if the action occurs:
• in grounding the club lightly when addressing the ball, • in fairly taking his stance, • in making a stroke or the backward movement of his club for a stroke and the stroke is made, • in creating or eliminating irregularities of surface within the teeing ground (Rule 11-1) or in removing dew, frost or water from the teeing ground, or • on the putting green in removing sand and loose soil or in repairing damage. (Rule 16-1).

What I saw from the video is that Michelle "lay" her club on the ground, not pressing as the later action require some force to do ... Anyone can clarify ?

| Sorry, after listening carefully to the video at home, it said you can't ground the club in the hazard.
So which rule is this, Tian's info may not be the one...
