Of scotties

Hello good people, I started this thread because I couldn't quite find an existing one, but mods please move as you deem fit.

As the subject goes, I'm wondering what the differences are between the two main series of scotty putters; newport and california. What are the substantive differences in the two? I was speaking to an acushnet salesman who said california was the better series, though the explanation he gave inevitably got lost between my limited thai and his limited english. =)

As an aside, I'm flirting with the idea of getting a Scotty (and a cobra driver for no reason except for an irrational desire to complete the set with "matching" equipment... but i digress...).. so anyway, can anyone advise on what is the price that one should expect to pay for the putter in Spore? I know the recommended retail price is 645, but what about those far east shops? (I read from another post that he managed to get it down to $440, but I'm not sure if this is the norm or the exception.)

We thought we'd reply to your post and try to explain some of the major differences in these two series of putters.

What your dealing with primarily here is a shape and finish difference, its all about whats pleasing to the the users eye and stroke and that is very subjective. California models are really some of the more classic shapes from the past while Studio Select has a blend of older and newer. One is not better than the other, its purely a users preference.

In terms of material and technology there is not much difference, both are milled from 303 SS with the California having the Chromatic Bronze finish (this comes from heat treatment) to give it that "Honey Dipped" look. Both use the heel and weight technology to allow for stability at impact and various length and custom weight requests.

Other obvious differences are grip, shaft label, headcover...etc.

Just my 2 cents worth in choosing a Scotty.

ultimately, choosing a putter boils down to personal preference.
I have been using a newport 2 for about 8 years and only recently changed to a KOMBI.
My basic belief that a putter should look pleasing to your eyes especially when you set it up for a putt and you feel comfortable about its weight and feel when you putt a ball.

There is no one putter which is better than the other as the result of the ball depends on how you hit your putt. I chose Kombi as striking the ball with it gives me a better roll on the ball thus increasing my chance of sinking my putts. After all these considerations then you should consider about the price since a Scotty will last you almost forever therefore it is a very good investment.

newport is toe-weighted, but kombi is face balanced.
did u have trouble adjusting your putting stroke when u changed putters?

how u find the kombi?
i am also considering the 33" kombi, but there are a couple of other options i'm waiting on...

I do not have any problems adjusting to the Kombi.
Your strokes should be consistent for all putters as most of the specs and setup are pretty similar. You should get a putter that suits your stroke and not change your stroke to suit the putter.

I did not have much problems with the NEWPORT, the only ones I had was that I tend to misjudge my distance for longer putts and Kombi gave me a better roll. I would recommend the KOMBI but only if it suits what you are looking for in a putter. I love my KOMBI.

actually i had to stop my golfing for a while since i have injured my right arm, hopfully by next week i can start swing clubs again...

as for the scotty, the feel is good, no doubt about it...just that my pocket is not deep enough..haha !!

I am comtemplating with Method putter since my clubs are all Nike, but still, the price is steep...

well, just have to continue buy 4D and toto and pray hard hard...haha !!
