DGman..my lovely wife bought me a scotty studio select as a surprise Surprised , the center shafted one. But she bought off the shelf, it hasnt been fitted to me. Can this putter be bent for lie? or should I go back to the shop and replace with ones with longer neck?

also, I like to forward press, and swing on arc. Is a center shafted putter (no offset) suitable for this style (generally speaking)?

note: I dont dare to try my putter in case got to return it. I'll come for a fitting with u soon.

thanks!

yes, not straight back and straight thru,

my misses are mainly pushes, swung inside and continue straight (not coming bank inside again on follow thru).

If i could just slice my putter, I'd stay true to my nick Very Happy

Sometimes the weight of putter makes a diff. As for me I do require a heavier putter as I need the weight to hold down my shaky hands. Hahahaha.. Getting old. Haiz..

from what i understand. centre shafted are for sweeping action. straight back and forth. so u may have gotten a wrong putter there. then again, it can be really personal. u got to try it to know if it works for u.

Pushslice,

if you adopt the arc method, you will find that a putter with some toe hang will be easier to stroke.

What's ur current putter? Not looking at your stroke but if you are using a mallet or face balanced putter, your misses tend to be pushes are likely because the face of the putter does not rotate thru together with your stroke.

General rule: face balanced and centre shafted putters for SBST methods, blade and heel toe weighted ones for arc. However, there will always be exceptions like Steve Stricker who uses a SBST method with a putter that has toe hang (Odyssey White Hot #2). I also feel that the Scotty Fastback feels great to me despite having an arc stroke too.

Get your current putter checked. If you tend to have a forward press, it might be better with more loft. Your lie angle might be a factor to your pushes too.

DGman

Great! That is something I will like to be playing around with once in a while - Having the stroke checked and making sure my aim has gone off.

Pushslice.......i dont think the 2.6 centreshaft is face balance, one can still use a gate putting with a great degree of ease. A lot depends on whether you like the set up & address and if you like that you will develop more confidence as you go along.

the CS is really an onset putter, while the PN is one shaft offset, from my recollection, the short slant is also a one shaft offset.

hand press is just an action to develop a firmer and more definite stoking action and also delofting the putter at impact. it works for some and it may not work for others. if you don't do it well, you are effectively shutting the face and will most certainly result in pulling your putts. by delofting the putter players are trying to generate more top spin with their putts, hence immediate roll and with practice better distance control on the short to mid length putts (meaning the birdie zone).

S70B, I'm currently using Ping Karsten Anser, face balanced with PN shaft. Std lie (?), std loft (3 deg if not mistaken). Your assesment is what I've felt on my my pushes.

Eric, if I fwd press on CS, I can see part of the red dot behind the shaft. As to the looks at address, I kinda prefer CS. I generally dont pull putts, just push 'em. btw i tested the Kia Ma black toe hang putter at your place, it felt and look good.

I'm going back to the shop, try all the models. they said I can replace with any scotty model. This is my first scotty, dont want to mess it up..

thanks for the advice folks.

Pushslice

Anser or Anser 2 with Plumber's Neck is not face balanced. I have forgotten but I think its a 4.30 toe hang.

I think you might be trying to keep ur clubface 'square' to the target thru impact as you are using the arc stroke, hence the push.

I am only guessing because that was one of my faults before I had my lesson. Best is have a pro look at it. When DGman has that system in, the faults will be even easier to diagnose.

fellas..with my fast hands and fast legs, i've just returned to office from a "long" lunch break with a new newport 2 mid slant, full shaft offset. At close second was California Del Mar, with more toe weight.

Lucky Jeff was around. He said lie was 1deg too upright but should help with my pushes, he can bend it if i started pulling.

I'm going to have Jhan looked at my putting again. Last time he told me to focus on speed and alignment. I needed to trust my swing. Jeff said the same thing. It's just that bi-weekly warriors like me struggle with consistency.

Denis, thanks for starting a good thread...

Hi pushslice, congrats for your new find. Lucky you with long lunch breaks Very Happy I am also looking at a mid slant but 3/4 shaft offset. Not sure if its suitable for me or the std full shaft offset, I've got to sort mine out soon.

Denis you have a good putting stroke and once you work on those fundamentals, you will be in the break 30 zone.

thank you for coming by......DGman
