| Hi guys... I have this problem with hitting a fairway wood well (probably for not practicing enough) and I was told that a Hybrid is a lot easier to use. Tried hitting some of my friend's hybrid clubs and true enough, much easier but I actually feels weird when looking at the hybrid head and during impact. Despite being an easier club, I find myself looking at fairway woods again. Anyone has the same problem? Despite Hybrid being an easier club... what is the advantage of a fairway woods over a hybrid? And finally... any good recommendations on clubs? I am looking for a club to get a distance of 200 - 230m Thx | |

| Mal, Alvin is not a mere mortal. I think 200-230 would be his 3i-4i distance.
I use the Mizuno MX-700 for both FW and hybrid and really like them a lot as they're extremely forgiving and the ball just goes straight and high and long. Apparently (and the more expert players can correct me here) for most hybrids you should swing it more like an iron (ie. hit down more on the ball) whereas for FW its a more sweeping motion. So the swing is slightly different for most hybrid vs FW. Don't think there's much advantage of FW over hybrid as long as they get you the same distance...

| FW gives you more rolling while hybrid doesnt. So it means FW can give u the extra 10~20m | |

So it means FW can give u the extra 10~20m That's true, and would be useful unless you want the ball to stop on the green rather than roll all the way through...

| Hum... Somehow I feels that hybrid did not have the distance control and 'feel' I get from my woods. Perhaps because the head of the hybrid is heavier and thus less feedback as compared to FW. Recently I had a swing with a Mizuno MP Titanium FW... it looks good and feels great... but not sure if I would say the same if I try it out on course! And btw Golfbeginner, my 3-4 iron doesn't got 200m lor... -_-''' In fact... think my 3 iron is about 15 meters... hehe... becos usually top! | |

| Decisions, decisions, decisions...
hahahaha
Although woods gives more rolls, hybrids are more useful in getting out of bad lies. Also, a punch shot on a hydrid has proven to be a very useful safety shot for me.

| I'm almost convinced to retire my 3W and stick to my 3 Hybrid..but then again considering the loss of aprrox 15m-20m..think i should practice more on my 3W.. | |

Thx I do have the same problem as Al, just that I don't hit that far.. haha.. I position my ball for hybrids at the same position as my irons, and use Hybrids as if I'm hitting an iron and the hit rates are pretty consistent. I tried to hit with my woods, but in the range, the swings are perfect, but on the green they suck.. The only difference between the 2 when comparing them on the range is that woods gives me more distances. (3 wood ~200 vs 3 hybrid ~160-180) Just from my personal experience.
