| Here is a chart that you might find helpful: http://www.golfmedic.net/archive/the-hybrid-loft-conversion-guide/
But I think more importantly is your comfort and ease of handling the respective club and the distance it gives you, rather than the number ?

| Short answer - Yes
Long answer - yes Going by lofts, 7 wood typically is 21 deg or equivalent to 3i in traditional iron sets with more modest lofts These days most irons are souped up lofts, 4 irons are 21 deg these days so really depends on the brand and model of iron set, a typical 7 wood can equate to a 3 or 4 iron

| actually 7 wood usually has a longer shaft than a 3 irons, even though loft can be the same. So you might get more distance from a 7 wood | |

how is that? woods fly higher than an iron of a comparable loft. In fact, years ago tiger switched from his 2 iron to a 5 wood so that he could hold greens better

In fact, years ago tiger switched from his 2 iron to a 5 wood so that he could hold greens better imo marginally more, not enough to overcome the effect of a higher launch angle for an equivalent loft wood and the benefits of a steeper descent angle from a shot hit with a wood
